Is he just doing this as he knows an appearance on TV with all this going on will bump numbers? It would be pretty distasteful if so, but this is Vince McMahon we're talking about.

Just reminded me of the title of Bischoff's book:

WWE never ceases to amaze me in just how bizarre they can get.

What annoys me is that industry reporters like Meltzer clearly know more than they are letting on, but they aren't reporting it. If they don't move soon, they are going to be humiliated by mainstream media.

this has to be a rating grab but it's incredibly poor taste, even for mcmahon.

Not even in the top 10 worst things he's done.

Making Trish bark like a dog in her undies.

Booking Mark Henry's son to be a hand.

This is nothing

I hope they’ve got this wrong and it isn’t turned into a storyline.

They could do an unrelated storyline to write him out of TV (either temporarily or permanently) but it would just be, quite literally, unbelievable. It needs to be played straight - if you want to address it on television then that’s fine, but the reality of the situation is the storyline, one doesn’t need to be conjured up or turned into a semi-shoot (like the whole MJF/AEW/Tony Khan situation appears to be).

Well, pretty much all of his previous scandals have made their way into an on screen story. He can't really lose out because if he gets heat from the crowd, it isn't going to matter.

I don't buy that they need to write him off TV, he rarely appears now anyway. I think this is just a move to shore up the TV networks and blur the lines again between Vince and Mr Mcmahon. I can actually see it working for 90% of the audience, who let's face it have forgiven him for far far worse.

CNN covering the McMahon story tonight between 10-11pm (UK time). Unless the international version opts to air something else. Knowing our luck…

did you not see the tweet i linked? a CNBC journalist is reporting McMahon will appear IN CHARACTER to address the current scandal. that doesn't compare with a stupid storyline where mae young gave birth to a fake hand, that was nothing.

As someone that's only got back into wrestling in the last few months, after a break of over 15 years, my brain's initial reaction to Vince appearing was... is that bad CG? What a weird looking old man. And things got no less weird from there. I know they edit in fan reactions, both visual clips, and the cheer, but it looked like he got a better reaction than pretty much every wrestler does. And then... he said nothing. It's like he knew this was being talked of in the news outside the usual circles and just said right I need to go on Smackdown to get the ratings up, and then didn't even bother to write the most basic of promos for it. Completely bizarre all round.

Vince McMahon really does look and sound terrible.

I don’t know how you can interpret him just coming out and repeating the current WWE Signature (“Then. Now. Forever. Together.”). That the company will still be here irrespective of what happens to him, maybe.

Wearing headphones there did appear to be some booing going on, but was ultimately drowned out by the combination of fans singing his entrance music and piped in cheers (which has just become the norm for many WWE promos and backstage segments these days, irritatingly)

Sad news - former WWE referees Dave Hebner and Tim White have both passed away.

Dave Hebner is probably best known for The Main Event storyline with brother Earl Hebner; Tim White for repeatedly attempting to top himself and failing in a series of ludicrous skits with Josh Mathews.

What is he doing…

I watched AEW Dynamite last night (hasn’t been great since they started the build to Forbidden Door, it must be said) and Christian cut what must be up there as the greatest promo of his entire career. They also aired a censored version of his confrontation with Jungle Boy’s family at ringside after the conclusion of Dynamite last week (the programme continued for around 5 minutes on Fite.TV). With no MJF knocking around he could be their best heel over the next few weeks and months.

Great signing WWE!

This kind of news just underlines why my interest in WWE has bottomed out over the last decade. He will probably do good numbers for them but I can see him only being at an event like Mania or Summerslam.

Also doesn't help that I just finished the 'Forbidden Door' PPV which was such an enjoyable and entertaining show. That crowd :datass:

Great to see they're returning to Arthur Ashe Stadium. Such a cool looking venue :)

AEW has had a brilliant week, in terms of the matches, the venues, the updated stage, and the crowds - the look of Forbidden Door and Blood and Guts Wednesday was spot on. Great to have Kevin Kelly back too, who just seemed thrilled to be there.

I thought the build to Forbidden Door wasn't very good (they haven't done a good job of telling the non NJPW/ROH audiences who anyone is; WWE would have video packaged the hell out of them) but come the PPV, it'll probably end up being the top 3 shows of the entire year. It felt like a major show and will now surely become a yearly thing.

I then watched an entire episode of RAW for the first time in months because of the return of Cena and they managed to do absolutely nothing with him. He came out, cut a pleasant enough promo, had a few backstage segments, set up absolutely nothing. I also cannot stand the sterility of the whole thing.

I assume they will build a Cena v Theory match for Summerslam?

Looking at their ticket website, Cena doesn't appear to be scheduled for any more shows in July, so I don't know if his appearance was a one and done for the time being?

BTW, if you want both Money in the Bank and SummerSlam for £9.99, make sure to order the WWE Network today or tomorrow. Their next PPV isn't until September for Clash at the Castle. That weekend is also AEW's All Out.
