AEW have screwed the pooch with this. Especially after blabbing about how much they value the UK market.
Had they not gone in there earlier this year saying they had this amazing best ever UK TV deal compared to WWE, and simply just announced that it's airing outside of the US on Fite with highlights on ITV it wouldn't have led to quite as much disappointment.
It's of course great to be on free TV, but this is actually worse than IMPACT WRESTLING's deal, which airs first on Showcase, on a short delay on 5Star at 11pm on Friday nights, is front and centre on the My5 app (which has just this week been upgraded), and replays repeatedly throughout the week also on Showcase. The PPVs meanwhile remain on Fite.
To think you can put out a TV-14 programme on a Sunday morning in the kids/politics slot is absolutely moronic on the part of ITV. The asinine logic of not even going with the highlights show on ITV1 and the unedited 2 hours on 4. Talk about either not caring, having zero clue as to the target audience, or they've gone and done a Channel 4 and think they've purchased late 80s WWF.
On the positive front, £4 is a very low price though, and at least we can now actually watch it Live without having to put up with ITV's BULLSHIT. I'm sure many WWE fans would love to be able to just watch RAW and SmackDown without having to pay for an entire sports sub.
