He's only in the pre-show trios gauntlet match :( Same with Suzuki and Goto(!). Teams are:

Hirooki Goto, Beretta and Chucky T
Minoru Suzuki, Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith Jr.
Ryusuke Taguchi, Togi Makabe and Toru Yano
Michael Elgin, Jeff Cobb and David Finlay
Marty Scurll, Hangman Page and Yujiro Takahashi

No pre-show battle royal

WWE were right to put the women on last (though AJ Styles/Bryan could have done so too). The TLC match was great, whereas Rollins and Ambrose bored me to tears. Going by the crowd reaction it did everyone else too.

I’m still up at the moment so might as well watch the start to see if Vince comes out at the beginning.

To admit the show sucks and blame it on storyline reasons is one thing, to admit the show sucks and then continue to do the same old stuff that has been killing it throughout the year (in this case exactly what we saw last night) is quite another.

Their answer at the moment seems to be an abundance of McMahon.

I can’t see much happening the next two episodes as they’re taped, so any meaningful change if it does turn up will be January 7th.

Exactly what I thought. It’s very confusing. They did promise new things over the coming months so maybe there may be changes but overall I’m not holding out for much. It needs a big shocking injection like when the nexus turned up.

In fact call up Wade Barrett and get him to turn up in a nexus t shirt with some new blood, and throw in heath slater because why not. That will get the crowd popping for a couple of weeks at least. It originally happened so long ago that it’s a nostalgia act now. It’s about the only successful nostalgia act they could use that isn’t a 50 to 60 year old man looking sorry for himself trying to recapture the limelight.

First time I've watched RAW in years and it's such a slog. Not surprised at the news of terrible ratings if this is the kind of show WWE put out each week.

This is what would be considered a good week...

The pacing of RAW is just so bad these days. It is really boring, predictable, rigid and uneventful TV. I was watching an episode of SmackDown from 1999 the other week and the difference is just ridiculous. And it starts off on the right foot: the music is fast, the pyro is fast, it’s 100mph as soon as the show starts. RAW completely lacks that zip and flow and any of the atmosphere you used to get. It’s flat and tedious.

To think this crowd has another 2 and a half hours to sit through as they’re taping the Christmas Eve edition tonight as well. :dread:

Cheers, just finished watching it, holy gooseberry fool that was good. This will be my first WrestleKingdom, can't wait to see that card in action.

Is there a schedule for New Japan? Always get so confused with their events.

There's a schedule on their site https://www.njpw1972.com/schedule/

Wrestle Kingdom is 8am Friday 4th. There's a preshow tag team gauntlet match but I think that starts at around 7am or something.

New Year Dash is 9:30am Saturday.

so now that All Elite Wrestling is official I wonder how many lower card WWE folk will be looking to leave for that.

PostRe: The Wrestling Thread III: R.I.P. "Mean" Gene Okerlund 1942-2019
by KK » Wed Jan 02, 2019 3:59 pm

WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Gene Okerlund, the most recognizable interviewer in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 76.

In his early days, “Mean Gene”, as he was named by fellow Minnesotan, Jesse “The Body” Ventura first came to prominence by interviewing the greatest stars of the AWA, including Ventura, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Hulk Hogan. In 1984, Okerlund made the move to WWE where he became a staple on national cable television by continuing to interview the biggest names in sports-entertainment like Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior and many more.

Okerlund branched out from interviewing by providing ringside commentary and hosting several shows, including All-American Wrestling, Tuesday Night Titans, Wrestling Challenge and Prime Time Wrestling. Announcing wasn’t all that Okerlund could do with a microphone, as his distinct voice sung the National Anthem at the first WrestleMania in 1985. Later that year, Okerlund would sing “Tutti Frutti” on WWE’s The Wrestling Album.

In 1993, Okerlund joined WCW as lead interviewer where he continued to interview many of the legends he had worked with in the AWA and WWE as well as WCW stalwarts, Sting, Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg and others.

In 2001, Okerlund returned to WWE to call the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania 17 along with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and continued to appear on WWE television programming, including being a cast member on WWE Network’s Legends’ House.

WWE extends its condolences to Okerlund’s family, friends and fans.
