Blimey, their international subscriber numbers must have gone to gooseberry fool after Mania. What a bargain that is.

I also wonder if they're trying to get their UK numbers up in particular because they're shopping the Network round to various streaming services for a Peacock-like deal.

In regards to Blood and Guts last night...

twitter.com/ShotziWWE/status/1390124361357660163

They really need to stop with these attempts at elaborate and totally unnecessary stunts, desperately trying to recreate 2000 within modern day safety parameters and without the knowledge and expertise to pull it off. It’s bad enough when WWE are sticking crash mats and air bags on and under their announce tables, but at least it’s usually from a height that looks respectable and filmed from an angle that would potentially convince the uninitiated. Though NXT’s use of hammers at (ironically) WarGames last year in the women’s match Shotzi was also in was as equally unconvincing, but that was less about the prop, more about the non existent sell job of getting hit WITH A strawberry floating HAMMER.

As it is, what could be AEW’s biggest or 2nd biggest audience ever on TNT just saw Jericho fall onto a Tempur mattress.Casual viewer laughs. Never comes back.

If there's a TV match that needs to be viewed on the Fite app instead of ITV4 this one is definitely it. On the basis of the announce team, there's a lot of adverts throughout - seems to be 3 within the last 20 or so minutes. They're in a commercial break during a rather pivotal point in the match involving the keys.

So throwback smackdown. They had a great opportunity here to tap into that late 90s/early 00s era where it was red hot. Have the wah wah wah wah theme and the oval set or the big fist

Nope fake 80s lame saxophone theme and graphics with the usual set for a show that started in 1999

I think they only did it because FOX is running a retro themed weekender or something like that. I guess they didn't want to go to the effort of taking down the set and building either of the original SmackDown stages, especially with no crowd. The current Thunderdome also looks to be a lot smaller so I'm not sure if the original stages would have even fit.

To centre it around the 80s makes absolutely no sense.

For some reason I don't think they've done an Old School SmackDown! show properly. 7 years ago they attempted to update the original intro on their YouTube account using current superstars (I don't believe this was ever used on TV):

When they can actually be arsed to bring back the look of an old show (such as the ECW One Night Stands and RAW) they've been great. Previously they used the RAW IS WAR template from 1997 and then added elements from the 80s and early 90s in there.

The first time RAW went old school they had the original WWF logo on the banners:

Unfortunately they then got a bollocking from the World Wildlife Fund, which is why they then changed it for future editions.

Yeah, aesthetically the look of the show just didn’t make sense, the block WWE logo and the original Smackdown logo just don’t mix. And again, total laziness not digging out the fist or the ovaltron. It’s a shame because without all those distractions it wasn’t actually a bad show.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that they don’t have the original SmackDown! set any more (though I would imagine it would be pretty easy to recreate - the backdrop would probably be done these days with LCD screens) but they definitely have the Giant Fist in their warehouse.

That’s a shame it’s definitely the oval set circa 2000 with the bright blue ring ropes and ring curtains I have the most nostalgia for.

I just signed up to this 99p for 3 months to watch some of the documentaries/Originals.....Is that WWE Treasure hunting programme not available on the Network? I see a clip on YouTube of a series where a guy was with Undertaker and going through his old gear wanting to take it back to the WWE vaults.

It's an A&E programme, unfortunately. I don't know if it's airing over here yet - depends on who owns the network (Disney?). Sky Atlantic previously showed the Andre The Giant documentary as they have the exclusive rights to HBO programming in the UK.

Not exactly a model citizen. I think he even disowned his own son for being a drag queen.

Yeah the guy was an arsehole from what I gather but I used to like him back in his ECW days.

Yeah, I know all about that and the Gypsy Joe incident and the time he tried to kill Vic Grimes. I learned all of this after ECW folded.

Damien Priest just defeated The Miz in the first ever Undead Lumberjack match, with zombies surrounding the ring. Some of the zombies no-sold the wrestling moves because they’re, well, dead. The zombies then ate the Miz. WWE in 2021.

Corey Graves on commentary: ‘No, we're not relaunching ECW again.’

New Jack was a troubled bloke that committed many abhorrent acts, though when you learn about his childhood, it's no surprise he ended up the way he did.

Entertaining matches though.

I took advantage of the 99p offer and because I couldn't sleep I managed to watch a few matches. Needless to say it cured my insomnia!

It wasn't a bad event, but it was blatantly an event that didn't need to happen. The triple threats just set up singles matches and there were no real surprises on the rest of the card.

Some of the matches were quite good, but overall it all felt completely meaningless.
