I knew he wouldn’t see out the year but I didn’t think he’d be out the door this quickly. I was thinking he’d be bumped over to Main Event or something.

He was truly bloody awful though. He was supposed to be the play-by-play guy but most of the time you wouldn’t have known it. Do they now bring back Tom Philips again or go with Vic Joseph from NXT.

Christ at this point they could bring back Kevin Kelly or Josh Matthews and it would be a massive improvement.

Kevin Kelly is probably the best play-by-play in the world right now :capnscotty:

Sorry, that sounded like I was denigrating them. What I meant was, WWE fired them out and they are currently doing far far better jobs at much smaller promotions.

Jimmy Smith is apparently the new play-by-play guy for RAW, previously from UFC and Bellator. How knowledgable he is on wrestling I guess we’ll find out...

According to Wiki, he joined UFC on January 12, 2018. Almost one year later, they then decided not to renew his contract as a commentator. Ominous?

Why they never snapped up Mike Goldberg I’ll never know. Probably because his name is Goldberg :simper:

They've now released Tom Phillips.

While he's pretty generic, he's still solid and most importantly will say what Vince wants. With the crazy amounts of money they're making at the moment you would have thought they'd keep him around as backup. I always assumed he'd be the next Cole.

AEW have fired one of their Spanish commentators Willie Urbina (previously of TNA fame) for mocking Hikaru Shida's attempts at English during one of the commercial breaks for Dynamite last night (they occasionally forget to turn the commentators microphones off on the international Fite.tv feed).

Thunder Rosa and Dasha Gonzalez may have been laughing along, kinda hard to tell not speaking Spanish, so there’s a chance something could happen to them too.

Rule 1 of TV and radio: always presume your microphone is live.

Saw someone say that Rosa cut in at the end to tell him to knock it off

Double or Nothing has some pretty great reviews. I did watch the Bucks vs Mox and Kingston. Loads of people thought it was amazing but honestly it just came across as ridiculous to me. Mox needlessly bled again, I don't think they realise with Mox that it is diminishing returns everytime he does it. Endless finishers and false finishes, and the fans still don't seem able to treat The Bucks as heels. The point of turning heel is that you can't do the same baby face moves which pop the crowd.

I also saw Cody vs Agogo. The whole stip that Cody can't fight for the title really hurts him. He is just perennially stuck in the midcard. Agogo actually did really well, but Cody was the wrong opponent at this stage of his career. Agogo needs work in terms of his character, but I see some real promise there. He also got a cheeky people's elbow in!

Just catching up now on the rest of the show, but the crowd really made this event. Its a great reminder that the crowd are so important in pro-wrestling.

Edit: Forgot to mention there was a brief Agogo chant, but the yanks just can't pull that off!

Thought it was their strongest PPV to date. Small lulls in the middle but that's to be expected over a 4 hour show, just super enjoyable from beginning to end without any accidents like the deathmatch pyro or Matt Hardy almost dying to sour the event.

Deeb vs. Riho on the buy-in was excellent, secret highlight of the entire show.
Huge pop for Adam Page.
Loved the tag title match, it's not surprising but was cool to see Eddie get such a great reception.
I had absolutely zero expectations for the Sting match but it was so awesome. He looked great and Ethan Page is growing on me with how well he plays a dickhead.

Obviously the full crowd elevated everything but I don't think it was a case of them plastering over just a decent to good show. It was a genuinely great one.

Tully at the bar

I was watching some old stuff earlier and it just got me remembering how much I loved Tajiri The Japanese Buzzsaw , I think after Kurt Angle and Eddie he was my fave back then. He played a real mean sadistic heel but he was also good as a quirky eccentric face. I know he is about 50 now and still going well in Japan for his age but I'd love in a few years to see him back over in a big American promotion being a sort of Mr Fuji sort of manager.

Just seen Baker vs Shida. Not a fan of Shida at all, but she was absolutely excellent, as was Baker. Tony Schiavone is basically every old 80s wrestling perv living his dream by rushing out for a hug

The stadium stampede has split opinion. But I really liked it as it feels like a proper farewell to the pandemic era in the way it transitioned back to the fans at the end. Let just hope the pandemic restrictions around sports can actually finally end at least.

Would like to see them still continue with Stadium Stampede, hopefully they can find a way in future to make it work with a live audience.

Pretty sure he plays a big part in booking All Japan these days. He's generally garbage in ring now tbh

Im not sure how big a role he plays in All Japan but he has done the booking and such in a few other now non existing promotions. The guy is getting older hence why id like to see him slide into a managerial role, I think he is a great personality, im not looking for him to half kill himself trying to do stunts he would do as a youngster, to many want there fave wrestlers to work to death and I bluntly find it sad, wrestle till your slowing down then train others or manage others or go into commentary.

Eddie and Jon coming out to Wild Thing was incredible and proves, along with Tarzan Boy, how much good licensed entrance themes can add.

Good to see that "The Dark Side of the Ring" series is on All 4 now. Watched the first couple of episodes the other night. It was every bit as traumatic and nostalgic as i anticipated.

Speaking of Dark Side. It's absolutely disgraceful that all the episodes are on dailymotion. Absolutely disgraceful I tell you. All looks to be in 720p and is castable to smart TVs.

Heh, that's good to know (but disgraceful). I'm guessing there are more seasons of it than there are available on all 4 then. Will investigate.

WWE have released Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Lana, Murphy, Ruby Riott and Santana Garrett.

A couple of shockers there. They’ve just spent the last month or so running these fancy video packages and promos on Black, attacks Big E I think it was on SmackDown the other week, only to then fire him. They’ve got no long-term planning or vision whatsoever.

I guess we know who’s coming to AEW in the next few months…
