Any ‘cordiality’ between AEW and WWE isn’t going to last 5 minutes.

Either Rollins has been directed to go on these weird rants, or WWE's biggest babyface has decided to start cutting heel promos on some of the best and most popular non-WWE wrestlers.

Whichever it is, it's strawberry floating dumb.

He's not even the best wrestler there, probably not even in the top five and certainly not top ten if we include NXT as well. If you include the women in that he's even lower.

Sounds like WWE are wanting a highlights show on a free-to-air channel https://media.sportbusiness.com/news/ww ... in-the-uk/

WWE seeks free-to-air highlights broadcaster in the UK

The WWE wrestling organisation is talking to broadcasters about a free-to-air highlights package in the UK, SportBusiness Media understands.

The rights will start from 2020, but the end-date is, as yet, undefined and may depend on the identity of the successful party. A decision is expected in the coming weeks.

WWE has created the free-to-air package to increase exposure for its property.

It would mark the first time WWE was free-to-air in the UK since the early 2000s when commercial broadcaster Channel 4 showed a highlights show and some main events.

The free-to-air highlights have been carved out of the main multi-year rights package WWE recently agreed with pay-television broadcaster BT Sport, which starts in 2020.

BT won the rights from rival pay-television broadcaster Sky, which has shown WWE for the best part of three decades.

I don't think BT have that Showcase channel on Freeview any more so I'm guessing it'll be something on channel 5 or one of their spin-offs. No doubt another panic move due to AEW.

At least they know being stuck solely behind BT’s paywall is a disaster, but is a 1 Hour highlights-only show going to work when over an hour’s worth is on YouTube almost immediately after it airs Live, whereas on TV you’re even cutting that down to 50 minutes with adverts.

As long as the show isn’t complete gooseberry fool, this is where Shotgun Saturday Night, Heat, Main Event, Superstars etc. comes into play. All these shows started off featuring recognisable faces and some storyline development but quickly became junk.

Best outcome would be a triple-header of NXT UK, something like Livewire, and Main Event or Sunday Night Heat (which in an ideal world would air Live again on PPV nights).

If they’re just going to attempt to throw RAW Hits out there like they do on Sky Sports Mix/Sky1 and think 40,000 viewers is acceptable then obviously that isn’t going to cut it.

Lana not being very PG on Fite TV’s current promoted programming...

Must have borrowed Lita’s old wardrobe.

Pretty sure that’s from last years ESPYs, which funnily WWE have their own category in this year
Also :datass:

Coincidence that Fite is suddenly pushing Lana related content and both her and Rusev’s contracts with WWE are up soon. Getting that Fite audience prepped for their debut on one of their carried promotions, OBVIOUSLY.

Interested to see how they play Raw this week. The Press release kind of hinted at a new era, but if its the same show with the same set, the same format and the same paint by numbers plot, then any buzz they have got from Heyman and Bischoff will die on its arse.

I'd love to see a new set and style. I'd like to see WWE try and and least creatively compete with AEW and stop being so sterile.

Can’t see anything changing for weeks, if not months yet. SmackDown will get its big overhaul when it moves to FOX in October. They apparently want a more sports vibe (which WCW Nitro had in 97/98) so hopefully some quite drastic changes there.

Surely Heyman would’ve been more suited to Smackdown! If fox want a more sports oriented show? Back in 02/03 when Heyman was writing the show with the “Smackdown 6” there it was pretty much all about the wrestling, and that’s the best Smackdown! has ever been.

The Alex Jebailey/Michael Nakazawa on the AEW buy in show :slol: Good use of a GameCube pad though.

Why isn't the event free in the UK like everywhere else?! I would pay but if it's for free everywhere else in the world then strawberry float that I'll stream it from pirates.

That was a very violent main event. Not a massive fan of the CZW style myself, nor was I expecting to see chair shots to the head back in wrestling again (and that appeared to backfire as it cut Rhodes open very badly) but there was certainly something for everyone on this show. Ultra violence appeals to a very niche audience though, even if it does differentiate them from WWE.

Only free in the USA, rest of the world had to pay for it. I agree selling a free show as a PPV in the UK obviously doesn’t work though. There’s another one in a couple of week too, and that’s the slightly more hyped show of the two.

There was no real reason this second show coming up couldn’t have aired on ITV4 rather than PPV (they had a boxing match last night). Far too graphic for ITV1, even at that time.

Especially having it air free in the US means there are not shortage of streams and downloads available this morning. It's not a good sign for how they've arranged things with ITV.

That coffin drop was bloody stupid. I'm all for seeing things that push the limits but that was needless. The unprotected chair shot to the head is dumb in this day and age too. No one will moan about putting a hand up.

Thank god they didn't do the extra 5 minutes. Would have been daft to have their first match were the time limit comes into play end with them rendering it worthless by extending it.

I don’t recall seeing it done before on a WWE or WCW event...

The AEW love bubble seems to have burst on the internet. The stupid chairshot, awful librarian stuff and non-wrestler match seems to have shattered some rose tinted glasses out there.

Yeah I heard about the chair shot. Can't give money to a company doing that in good conscience, even if Cody is a founder.

Wasn't it a gimmicked chair?

Dunno why people are so desperate for them to fail.

It was a gimmicked chair (I think the seat itself was similar to their trash cans/cookie trays) but the backrest was real and unfortunately that cut open the back of his head.

People like The Rock always used to get their hands up during chair-shots to the head and it wasn’t a problem. Then there were the Hulk Hogan types who pulled the chair, but then it just looked weak. At some point in the late 90s onwards it became common place to legitimately bash someone in the head with a chair. Probably the ECW influence.

When I was watching the pre-show on YouTube I noticed 30,000 were watching the feed 20 minutes in.
