That's much more reasonable than I thought it would be. Beats paying £40 for G1 Supercard on Fite

The 1 hour pre-show will be on ITV4 as well. If this is a success, surely a lock for AEW's weekly show will be on ITV too.

Here's hoping ITV's infrastructure doesn't balls this up, because they've had some problems in the past streaming their boxing events.

AEW couldn't have really asked for better promotional opportunities either, as based on the boxing this will get them trailed across the ITV channels and on other Live events as well...unfortunately I don't think there's that much sport coming up apart from Horse Racing. @ITVWRESTLING has already become a thing on social media.

To be fair, I reckon Hazuki/Bea and Kagetsu/Storm are both better matches.

WWE is a perfect example of why Monopolies are a problem. They are doing literally everything wrong but because they have money they are able to stop other brands from expanding or competing with them. They just buy up wrestlers people like and stop them wrestling anywhere else.

You can see them getting more and more desperate as they slump lower and lower. It's kind of sad. All because Vince is a massive control freak.

I'm sure he knows a lot about the business, but he just absolutely hasn't adjusted well along with the audience and he needs to learn to let go. The company would be 100% in better hands if HHH had the final say in creative matters, NXT is evidence of that.

The problem is, they are reliant on advertisers and that means putting out a vanilla product and keeping as far away from overtly controversial stuff as they can. Innovation is a risky prospect, it risks turning advertisers away if new ideas fail. So the WWE is being run like a middle table wealthy football club in my opinion, collecting the cash and taking no risks.

It was different during the boom times as competition meant they had to innovate or die.

You'd imagine WWE will be absolutely shitting themselves if they did that. NXT UK was basically a reaction to World of Sport being announced, and they shat it and fast tracked that to the network when Rev Pro had that show on Freesport. Their next negotiations for the TV rights would be pretty interesting too.

Aren’t the WWE tv rights with Sky up this year?

Anyway just seen this Lars Sullivan stuff. Apparently a lot of this stuff was known in his NXT days yet they pushed the banana split.

I believe they are from what I’ve read. Would be great if ITV bid for it to have both AEW and WWE on ITV4. Couldn’t ever imagine WWE agreeing to be on the same channel as a competitor though.

0% chance they didn't know his history (although they'll deny it), but Vince has to fuel his erections somehow; he's getting old after all.

WWE expected to announce their new U.K. TV rights last year, twice, but by the looks of it they’re not going as well with Sky as expected. Sky overpaid massively for WWE last time, you had that Main Event/Network cock-up that resulted in WWE having to remove the show worldwide, and Sky have been lumbered with PPVs that can’t possibly be worth a toss. Sky are also cutting back on supplemental sports programming (tennis is pretty much dead) at a time WWE ratings have been rapidly declining (as has many other things on Sky Sports like the NFL).

Plus do WWE really want to be locked behind a paywall when all their competition in the U.K. (Major League Wrestling, All Elite Wrestling and IMPACT WRESTLING) are likely to all be on free-to-air? Unfortunately for WWE, with Channel 5 linked up with IMPACT, AEW and World of Sport with ITV, that only leaves them with Channel 4. BT Sport would be a downgrade because that’s even more niche than Sky Sports, so their best bet would be to stay with Sky and shift RAW and/or SmackDown back to Sky1, which is where WWF originally was in the 80s/90s. SmackDown in 2000 onwards used to have the Saturday 11am slot if I remember.

I would imagine Sky aren't particularly enamoured with the fact WWE is essentially trying to drive its fans to its own subscription product via Sky's channels. As a broadcaster, why would you want to give it a platform to cannibalise your own business?

I know for a period Sky were blurring out the "WWE Network" on the ring skirts (usually opposite the announce table), though I don't know if they still do it on the rare occasions WWE still use it.

WWE are overhauling the Network later this year with new features and interface, along with a rumoured tiered payment system and programming that differs slightly depending on country. Worst case scenario they could always put it on there coupled with an advertising blitz (something WWE doesn't really do any more in the UK).

The All Elite Wrestling (AEW)-Turner deal is now “virtually done,” a person with knowledge of the plan tells TheWrap exclusively. Current plans call for the partnership to be announced through select press one hour before WarnerMedia’s Wednesday upfront event, the individual said. The arrangement made between the parties called for a small group of reporters to be informed of the agreement on an embargoed basis the evening before.

AEW president Tony Khan and some of his wrestlers are expected to be in attendance at the Madison Square Garden — the mecca of professional wrestling — pitch to media buyers, the person told us. The presentation begins at 10 a.m. New York City time.

Current plans call for Turner to begin airing a weekly AEW wrestling show this fall on TNT.

It’s astonishing what they’ve managed to achieve in such a short amount of time. To end up on TNT is even more remarkable.

Probably wouldn’t normally but I’ll be purchasing the Double or Nothing show on ITV Box Office as the success of that will directly impact on if it ends up on ITV4 or maybe even ITV, if at all.

The number of similarities with WCW are all over the place (the last time ITV aired American wrestling was WCW in the early 90s), but in other areas it’s completely unprecedented. A virtually unproven promotion to get this level of carriage is jaw dropping in itself.

Didn't take long for ITV to start strawberry floating things up, did it... :fp:

There's 6 million PS4's in the UK, effectively wiping out the second most popular purchasing option for people next to Sky. ITV Hub isn't on the PS4 either.

I'm guessing it's because replays wouldn't have been available on PS4, so if something had gone wrong on the Live airing that's a lot of potential refunds.

I'm working on the Sunday so there's zero chance I'm staying up to watch it. I just assumed that, like with All-In on Fite TV, once the event was finished you'd be able to watch it on demand whenever you wanted but apparently with that ITV Box Office thing they are only showing repeats at certain times the next day and I'll miss them all because I'll be at work :fp: Just gonna torrent it then.
