PostRe: The Wrestling Thread: NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff (WWE Network) AEW All Out (12am, ITV4 & Box Office) - Saturday

The horse racing was on ITV4 earlier and they had one of their presenters having to sell AEW All Out. To be fair, she did a sterling job, though then followed it up by saying she wouldn't be watching because she'd be in bed at that time.

Just a bit surreal to see wrestling getting pushed so hard across 'normal' TV programmes again, it's been years.

BTW, the start time for the NXT UK pre-show is 6:30pm, main show 7pm. Scheduled to run until 10pm, per the WWE Network.

Watching the pre show, the majority of these lads do look like Fanny’s in fairness.
Nigel Mcguinness did just imply Mark Andrews would shag a sheep if he won though

Crowd popping huge for Cesaro. Bet that’ll be one of the biggest reactions of the night as well (which would be a bit embarrassing for the proper NXT UK roster).

Can’t say I like the lighting on this show. Building is sold out so why would you turn all the lights off. :fp:

Crowd sure loves that “Are you watching Vince McMahon” chant.

I do like having a WWE ring back that isn’t lit up like a Christmas tree though.

Impossible to see Flash Morgan Webster and not think he’s walked off the set of The Inbetweeners.

Really tempted to pay for All Out and do another all nighter. Punk has said yet again he isn't going to show up, but I think AEW and Punk have really done a poor job of quelling expectations.

Hopefully Jericho and Page can do a good enough job in the main event to make the fans forget. It's going to be really difficult for them to avoid Punk chants though. Might have been worth a few $100k to get some kind of appearance out of him on the main show to avoid embarrassment.

Well that was pretty awesome! A Last Man Standing Match living up to its Mick Foley-level reputation for a change.

Anticlimactic flat ending however.

I love the branded blazers on the commentators. Just so old school.

That opening felt like it was for The Great American Bash or something.

Another WCW tradition I notice they’ve kept is the running down of the card at the start of a PPV.

One thing I wish they wouldn’t copy from WWE is this new fascination with mood lighting on the crowd during matches. The crowd don’t need to be lit up red, blue, or worst of all sat in complete darkness like the building is strawberry floating empty. The crowd are an important part of the show. SHOW THEM.

Luchasaurus is over as strawberry float! Could be a future champion.

That’s why I went with ITV Box Office, pretty much guaranteed no technical difficulties.

That was my initial fear with PlayStation as it’s so unproven in PPV, certainly to me.

It really does appear to be a complete and utter strawberry float up as well. :fp:

Watching people like Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard turn up I do wonder how strongly they’re going to play up the heritage of wrestling on the Turner stations when AEW debuts on TNT.

Just the one weak match on the main show so far, rest of the night has been great. Same with NXT UK, which started the night a bit flat but picked up with the arrival of Cesaro and basically stayed at that level for the rest of the show.

JR just does not want to be commentating AEW. His heart is not in it. I think if they replace him as lead with the guy from esports from time to time it would do the company good. Two man booth.

Also the crackerbarrell gooseberry fool on their biggest PPV of the year? Nah. It's a $50 PPV they don't need to have that stuff so front and centre. I still have my doubts on having someone so gimmicky like Orange Cassidy when they've stressed so hard for months that they're pushing as a sport. Don't get me wrong these are my only complaints but some of the things they say are clearly just to please the internet. Their actions show different.

Definitely thought the main event on NXT UK TakeOver was better than AEW. Jericho looked a bit less in shape here, though the right decision he won as he's a big name you obviously want as champion heading into your first show(s) on TNT.

Jericho is so strawberry floating good. Still baffled by anyone wanting Hangman to win.

I'm gonna watch some of the PPV again later today after I've watched the TJPW show since I was dozing off a bit, but I really enjoyed all of it apart from the shitty Dark Order.
