Prioritise matches with higher ratings in the Observer. It's how i cherry-pick.

Another day, and another promotion fires Jim Cornette:

https://www.nationalwrestlingalliance.com/news

He was actually pretty decent on commentary playing an unbiased colour commentator. Which makes the line he spouted out even more bizarre as it didn't even fit his character. Surely this is the end of the road for him, he's been fired from pretty much every major promotion.

He's let NWA down badly in my opinion. They didn't need this.

I think the main problem with someone as outspoken as Jim Cornette is that he comes from an era of wrestling, up until the early 2000s, where saying these type of things on commentary or in a promo wouldn't have been seen as inappropriate, particularly for a heel commentator. Or if it was intentionally outrageous, would have just been brushed aside with an 'Oh, come on...' from the lead commentator. See also: Jerry Lawler. He's stuck in 1997 WWF, where such a line would have quite happily gone out on Sky1 at 11am (and you know what, it probably did) but he's not been able to adapt to modern tastes or standards of decency that the modern audience and society expects, even on a show that rather ironically is trying to ape Southern wrestling promotions of the '70s and '80s.

If you hire Jim Cornette you should know by now what you're going to get, he's not changed at all. Which is where someone like Jerry Lawler has, even if his actual views personally probably haven't. The WWE has reigned him right in, and they're Live, so NWA doesn't have much excuse on a taped show.

It's like sticking Jim Davidson on BBC1 in 2019 and then being shocked when he says something racist. You don't say.

NWA really leaning into the 80s gimmick with some good old southern racism, brother.

One of their VPs also retweeted some gooseberry fool the other week about how diversity is going to ruin sports. In conclusion, NWA can go strawberry float itself.

At least the A Show is back tonight (funnily enough, Cornette doesn't particularly like AEW either), and Jericho has promised a huge announcement...

I wonder if it has anything to do with Dynamite emanating from his upcoming cruise ship.

Presumably this is also AEW's attempt to counter all the main roster WWE guys turning up on NXT tonight (which Triple H pushed heavily at the end of RAW). If AEW is ever going to lose in the ratings in the foreseeable, tonight will be it.

Cornette :fp: I’m not surprised, he always seemed into “old school” in all aspects of his life not just pro wrestling, he’s a dinosaur and can strawberry float off. It’s a shame for NWA Powerrr though so early in it’s life with this kind of thing happening.
On a different note, I thought Punk was very entertaining on Backstage this week. Survivor Series in Chicago better good or I can see any lull in the show being dominated by CM Punk chants.

Some of the other guys behind NWA seem like total pricks themselves so I don't know that Cornette has particularly let them down at all. They probably would have been happy to let this slide if Jim wasn't getting into trouble for being a twat every other day off the job too.

Betting Jericho's announcement tonight is his own brand of bubbly.

What’s the lead time on an episode of NWA? I can’t imagine the show is under much time pressure, it’s not like they’re taping on a Friday and airing it 3 hours later. It would have gone through multiple people and not one of them thought it was worth editing off.

Also turns out Cornette actually has used it a number of times before, including WWF TV from 1995 (looks like Superstars to me) and on a World Championship Wrestling episode in the ‘80s:

They were taped weeks ago.

Cornette is an out of touch hack and the sooner he disappears, and takes his loser, snitch-tagging fans down with him, the better.

WarGames starts at midnight right? Tempted to renew my sub and watch that and SS this weekend. Also tempted to keep playing Pokemon and not bother attempting to get back into WWE's BS.

NXT off to a really hot start with the women’s war games match, though the WWE Network has been a bit gooseberry fool again, with the return of its fast forward/rewind crap.

I listened to Cornette's non apology. It seems Dave Lagana who did the editing either missed the line or felt it was acceptable for broadcast. If he was a heel commentator like he used to be, you could maybe, maybe justify keeping that line in at a stretch. But this was a massive failure from. NWA, and honestly the more I read about their management, the more concerning I find them.

Its a shame, the actual show has been really really good, but this feels like a huge derailing moment and I don't think they have the right people in charge to make amends.

This has been a great Survivor Series tonight thus far, they’re really pushing NXT.

I hate having to watch The Fiend’s matches now though because they’re still insisting on this red light BULLSHIT.

Knew the WWE had to strawberry float it up somehow, Walter eliminated first in the 5 on 5 on 5 tag match. Crowd chant “bullshit”. :fp:

I'm surprised they are persisting with the red light thing. Literally nobody likes it. If anything, I think it makes it harder for the Fiend to get over as it ruins all of his matches.
