Well, great going OR.

And this thread has reminded me to get that release post for my fourth done. It's been out for almost twelve hours already.

Any promotion of your stories can help. Books on digital storefronts will have a decent chunk of their first chapters available to preview anyway, so if you have a more exciting part in a later chapter, that would be better to use.

Promotion is still the one thing I err on the side of, as while I will post about my stuff and give previews to it, I don't want to feel aggressive about it and so am probably doing way less than I should.

This thread is literally for sharing your writing so don't worry about that :)

Writing group tonight was interesting, we did five minutes of free writing which I found to be a great exercise for forcing me to write quickly. Planning on going back!

“Who’d of thought a games console would have a larger inside,”

I read this and I couldn't help think of the GRcade meme about larger, as in the drink larger.

I do not recommend putting lager inside your games console

There's some great character interaction there, shy guy. Especially in that third preview.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-48185607

A new feature in Microsoft's Word aims to help improve writing beyond the usual grammar fixes.

Using artificial intelligence, Ideas will suggest rewrites for clunky sentences as well as changes to make sure language is gender inclusive.

It will help users lay out different parts of a document, including tables, and suggest synonyms and alternative phrases to make writing more concise.

It will be cloud-based and initially available to users of Word Online only.

Is this the spiritual return of Clippy? It sounds annoying as hell. Also concerning in being cloud based, so all your writing is being sent to some unknown server and your selected corrections probably used to further refine the AI.

In other news, I reached 40,000 words on Monday. Looking back when I posted about hitting 30,000, that means I managed 10,000 in a month. I'm very happy with that, especially with how busy I've been!

This constant reliance on algorithms (because that's what they are, not strawberry floating AI) is infuriating. Grammar is a multifarious, multifaceted beast whose norms and accepted rules are constantly changing. This sort of gooseberry fool leads to inevitable normalisation and decreases diversity in styles.

strawberry float that gooseberry fool.

This is good however. Well done Orange!

Great going on the 40k OR.

As for the Ideas AI thing, Word is already infuriating when it gives suggestions for perfectly fine sentences. I don't need it telling me that I used one too many words in all my sentences.

Just to let you know, I've bought it, and will be starting reading soon.

Those second book previews also sound great.

I can't wait for that new Word update: "It looks like you're trying to assume someone's gender. Would you like to check your privilege?"

I was commenting on the BBC article "Using artificial intelligence, Ideas will suggest rewrites for clunky sentences as well as changes to make sure language is gender inclusive." Which just seemed kind of funny. I can imagine a lot of people going nuts if that's really the case.
