I moved from PC games to Xbox on UK launch. Loved it,Halo was game changing to me. The box had a rocky start and several droughts but nothing can beat the first live experience with PGR2 wonderful stuff and perhaps behind Halo one of my all time favorites. Say what you like about being charged for online they made it work on home consoles had a proper unified model that has taken a long time for everyone else to catch up. Steam was bollocks back then and every PC game used something different had no friends lists and voice comms was with teamtalk or some other bollocks.

It's cocktail time!. Then again when isn't it.

I remember reading loads about the system and a lot of my friends were talking about it around launch. About a year later I decided to take the plunge on an Xbox and a little game called Halo, many awesome times were to be had. I really did enjoy the console and while it had quite a few highlights I would never have thought MS would reach the heights that they have today with the platform. Also controller S was a revelation back in the day

The original XBOX was built like stone...so much better than the XBOX360.

Fond memories of the console too...I bought one for OutRun 2 and then I got my hands on RallySport Challenge 2. Such a good game.

Great console. I got mine free courtesy of Eurogamer, without which I may never have bothered with one. Brought some great features (hard drive, Xbox Live, an excellent controller) and laid the foundations for the best console in years (360).

they seemed to go back to those principles with the s.

actually it's the most stable i've had. I had two failed xboxes.

The thing is, that could easily be a Noel Gallagher lyric.

Loved my Xbox, didn't get it till my birthday in 2003. Got Halo and Unreal Championship with it. Then that Christmas I got PGR2 and Xbox Live. A week later I bought Rainbow Six 3 ( ) and I was hooked. Utterly brilliant.

I still remember your hesitance to get one at first though. I also remember you leaving me for dust on PGR2 most of the time.

Your maths is wrong there. It launched in the UK in 2002 which was only about 7 years ago. :shifty:

I remember one of my mates got an Xbox instead of a PS2. It was absolutely huge and we routinely mocked him for purchasing such a monstrosity. Having been indoctrinated by Sony since the PS1 I couldn't fathom why anyone wouldn't buy a Playstation, it seemed like such a gamble.

Curiously he only ever had 1 or 2 games for it, 1 of which was a Mario 64-style platformer where a kid had time travel abilities (maybe?).

I didn't rate it.

I loved my original Xbox (once I picked up a Controller S anyway!).

It might have been a huge box but it felt sturdy and it was great to have a console with a hard drive and online capabilities built in. Multiformat wise it had the better looking games and it had some absolute classic exclusive games of its own.

A shame it got dropped so quickly, but the 360 was an amazing upgrade from it.

I agree with Brer, without Halo (and Halo 2) the Original Xbox would have sank without trace. Having bought one to play Halo I was happy to find Project Gotham Racing to be a joy, I had a PS2 at the same time and I think people forget but the Xbox was more powerful, certainly the games looked a step up graphically. I remember GTA San Andreas ran like a dog on my PS2 so got it on Xbox and it was far better.

It's the prequel to my fave game console of all time so I'm glad it was made.
