Do we know how much it'll be going for? I'm definitely interested but I don't have the nostalgia to persuade me.

I think it's £109.99, Orange. It's up for pre-order at GAME but I'm awaiting the Amazon listing.

I know that the C64 is too old for most GRcadians to be familiar with but, for me, it was the ultimate game system when I was a young teenager. The scene is still alive, too, with new games arriving and a regular fanzine - Freeze64 - published.

There is no doubt that nostalgia plays a part and I suspect that many games would be too archaic for younger gamers but it's still amazing that people continue to program stuff for the system today. Even Minit - the recent popular indie game - is getting a C64 release!

...it's weird how human memory works, too. I can forget names of people within seconds of meeting them, but I can still recall the BASIC commands Poke 53280,0 and Poke 53281,6 to change the screen and border colours of the C64  .

My man. I was about 5 when I first played on the family one (1985), and my love affair with gaming was cemented when I got the Dec 90 issue of commodore format (issue 3). The music from the SID chip still sounds amazing and individual, and that combined with the unique colour pallett pulls me back to my childhood more than any other vintage system I may have played at the time.
Amiga games hold up better today, but you never forget your first love.

Great memories! I got my 64 in 1985 as well, kaz. My family had the VIC-20 and, by selling that and working a paper round, I was able to get the 64 in December. Zzap! 64 was my magazine but, a few years after it closed and Commodore Format arrived, I got that.

Oh yes! The SID sound was amazing and I still play those tunes via SIDplay on my Mac.

True, man. The C64 is so low-tech today but the charm still shines through. The scene has come alive in past years with new games being published (digitally, cassette, disk and cart!) and Freeze64 becoming more popular. Zzap!64 has returned for 2019 and (soon) 2020 annuals, too. Hopefully this new THEC64 will add to the success of THEC64 Mini and help build up the scene further :-) .

I loved my C64 back in the day, but I am not paying £109.99 for one now.

Surely the board needed for this must cost almost nothing.

THEC64 Mini was priced around £49 and I had kinda hoped that this full-sized, working keyboard version would be under £100. Build quality will be critical; if it replicates the original feel then I'll be happy to pay the price.

 812372 was the phone number of my (adult) next-door-neighbours when I was a child. Ask me to send an email and it's basically left my head 30 seconds later.

07989997581 was my first ever mobile number back when I was around 14 years old (I'm 35 now) yet I regularly struggle to remember names.

I have had the same mobile phone number for around 15 years and I have no idea what it is.

But I can still remember the landline number we had when I was a kid and my grandmother’s old phone number. Neither of those numbers have been in use for the last 20 years.
