Quick to GRcade. I pulled a baby rook out of the neighbours garden through a trellis that had fallen from the bastard massive conglomeration of nests in their massive tree. First I spotted a cat and then some other fluffy thing that I thought was a rat. So I basically saved him from certain death as I got the the cat to piss off just in time. I just so happened to be taking a piss which is ground floor adjacent to garden so I made this important observation.

The fledgling is now safely in a box with some cardboard packaging just like a nest and is chilling on the garden table while I watch through the conservatory window. It even nods off every couple of seconds. I will guard it with my life until the parents arrive. If there are no parents within an hour and a half, I am supposed to drop it off at the local RSPCA shelter.

Stay tuned for updates.

Ugly wee banana split look at the size of its head compared to its body.

He/she is much better once you get to know him. But it's only been about an hour. I am still waiting for the parents but it has chirped a few times. I tried to feed it a mealworm (I keep lizards) but it seemed more interested in the shiny tweezers, knocked it and it got lost in the box.

Its head is really soft and downy but yeah the head is totally out of proportion with everything else. The the equivalent of a teenager I think so maybe a month or two old. It's nothing like the massive strawberry floaters that wake us up every morning in the attic yet. They're basically Nazgul Dragons.

But I hate them a bit less now I know how fluffy the babies are. Should make mornings easier. They start cawing at about 4:30am. There's at least ten of them. My garden is basically a rookery and now the rubbish parents are dropping their children and expecting me to babysit. I better not be late for roast.

Make the bird into a youtube sensation!

A video blog from now, its progression, and eventual release back into the wild.

Then further updates when it comes back to visit you. And how you teach it to 'talk' and steal/pickpocket

Plus, the RSPCA will just put it in a bin bag and smack it off a wall.

Did you run out pissing everywhere or did you luckily finish urinating in time?

I'll keep the bird under observation using my contacts and sue the gooseberry fool out of them if they do that, purely for time lost.

But srs the more time you spend with a bird the less likely it is to be accepted because it starts to smell of humans and then it's basically scum. All hail the rook master race.

Thanks for submitting your question. I had just finished pissing when I spotted the unusual cat activity and was washing my hands at the sink facing the window. This is one very lucky devil bird. God knows what could have happened if I wasn't relieving myself at that moment.

If it isn't eating mealworms, perhaps try feeding it a chicken nugget?

I saw a seagull eating a dead pigeon this afternoon. So it might work?

You may have saved it from certain death, but its parents will have now abandoned it.
Congratulations, you are now its mother

I'm not ready for this kind of responsibility. :(

It has bobbed it's head up and down and called a few times but no signs yet. Time is almost up. RSPCA will be over soon to exterminate itrear it in a shelter

BUT WAIT AT THIS VERY MOMENT A ROOK HAS RETURNED AND IS KAWING SOMEWHERE, THE BABY HAS CRAWLED OUT OF THE BOX AND FALLEN ONTO THE PATIO FLOOR TWICE, REFUSING TO REMAIN IN PLACE, AND IS NOW SAT LOOKING DISHEVELLED. WILL THE ROOK RETURN TO ITS CHILD, STAY TUNED FOR DEVELOPMENTS

You're a good guy, Gecko  .

I remember when I was a wee lad we had an injured pigeon in our back garden and me and my sister were upset about it. My dad put the pigeon in a small box in a tree, we named it "Percy" and then fed it for a couple of days before it became well enough to fly off*.

* Or my dad discovered that it was dead and told us it had flown away, anyhow. Never thought about that until now. Thanks, Gecko :x .

Edit: Just seen the live update   ... .
