This one has really affected me. I guess to be honest I'm a bit desensitised to shootings in the States, but I think of New Zealand as being a pretty peaceful, quiet place, so it's just cut straight through that. Been tearing up a bit reading the reports.



Let's not dogpile on CRD. It's an interesting point just made at an inappropriate time. I'm sure his reaction to the news was of total horror just like the rest of us.

It saddens me that my first thought to this thread title was:

"What American state is NZ...?"

I said to my missus this morning, I cannot fathom something like this ever happening in New Zealand - place seems like the most chilled country in the world.

My first reaction was that it was sickening, what more needs to be said than that?

These shootings aren't only tragic but also frustrating for a multitude of reasons.
It's frustrating knowing that many media outlets are not going to report this as an act of terrorism.
It's frustrating seeing VIP's such as politicians victim blaming.
It's frustrating that the people who making a living fanning these flames will continue to do so.
But most importantly, it's frustrating because it justifies extreme views on the other end and supports the narrative that the west is hostile towards Muslims and that they are unwanted here. This will no doubt spur Islamic extremism which in turn will spur alt-right extremism. The west hates us vs they hate the west. This cycle will only continue and the acts of spontaneous violence will only become more and more common.

This one has really upset me - I don't know why. The Senator for QLD is human trash, and the whole situation is just vile on every level. Genuinely abhorrent attitudes, like all the tropes of white nationalism and racist white people all rolled into one horrifying whole.

Pewdiepie is a racist alt-right shitlord, so it doesn't surprise me that he's been linked to this.

The world being how it is, I'm sure his subscriber count will go up, which will be all he cares about.
