This is horrible. Unfortunately I immediately worry what my landlord's self-declared white-nationalist failson channer thinks of this. That was the first time in person I realised these people actually exist and what they will believe, say and do (pretty haunting thinking again of when he left my house saying, "When the revolution comes, I'll be the first to shoot.") It upsets me with the Internet and GRc being a big part of my culture that there are those dark corners of the web that breed amongst civilised society, even amongst the relatively well-off with little to no real threat to their lives, individuals driven to extremes like this, and have that come back to haunt people who look like me and have hobbies like me. That sounds naive, but I just mean how close to home it really is. Everyone needs to be more alert that these psychopaths with extreme views festered largely on the Internet are around and willing to commit atrocities but at the same time I reel at the idea that the media circus and the natural reaction to it together cultivate the fear and reverence that the perpetrators want.
Thankfully he (my local alt right nutter) has been effectively banned from working on our home. He couldn't even drill a hole in a wall anyway so I'm not surprised he's isolated and jobless if Destiny 2, racism and misogyny are his top 3 skills/things to talk about.
I've said it before as these mass murderers do these dreadful things.
Id love a news story where someone has killed themselves or turned themselves into the police. In the suicide note or police interview they disclose they were planning a killing spree of whichever target it was but at the last minute they had a moment of clarity and realised the enormity of what they were about to do.
Just once I'd like to see one of these people do that.
What is there to say -a despicable act of the utmost cowardice and callousness. I'm just glad he lived. Once the spotlight on him dims - he'll be in a cell with only himself for company. Forever. Piece of gooseberry fool.
Although I have to confess. At some point over the last 24hours I have wondered if this one played WOW with Staydead as well.
The news media always focuses on the attacker and their life when really they do not deserve the attention. They should be focusing on the individual victims, talking to people who knew them and and emphasizing what has been lost. Making it about the killer and the body count just rewards them with attention and does not properly humanize the tragedy. I know human beings are enthralled by violent spectacle and there is a market pressure to feed that interest but journalists have a moral duty to resist it or risk inciting copycat attacks.

On that note, this Twitter thread is showing some of the victims one by one, naming them, saying who they were and where they were from. Worth sharing here I feel.
What an act of supreme evil. To attack innocent, vulnerable people in a place of worship, men, women and children and kill them at point blank. I know the guy is an extremist but it's still difficult for me to understand how a person can become so twisted that he can plan such an attack without his conscience kicking in, then brazenly murdering so many and feel no compunction. Really sad to see the picture of the little boy, Mucad; may all the victims rest in peace.
