I think I know the one you mean.

He sounds like he's from the south of Ireland, is what I meant. We sound very different.

When I was on the train the other day, there was a woman who got on with a bag full of packs of pocket tissues, who walked up to all the empty seats, put one down with a note basically saying "I'm not a beggar, i'm a Mum with two children and no job. Please buy these tissues from me for whatever amount you think is worthwhile". At first I was like, sweet, free tissues and a note about some religion or something. Then I realised she wanted something I quickly put it back down. :shifty:

I'd have done the same. With stuff like that I tend to thing (granted harshly) if they put the same effort into getting work they wouldn't have these issues.

There are people I know that bitch and moan all day long about having no money and needing lifts to places because they cant afford a bus etc. but when they get the chance at a job as a cleaner they turn it up because "eww i dont wanna do that". Pisses me off no end!

Had some dude handing out leaflets/booklets a couple weeks back, usual self-help spiel with some laymans buddhism and meditation nonsense thrown in, but hey I'll take the free literature and give it a look. At which point he asked for a donation, so I laughed in his face and handed him his pamphlet back before walking away. Sometimes I'm really capable of being a cold-hearted bastard. It keeps me sane.

At lunch time a cancer charity chugger stepped out in my way and said "I'm going to have to stop you..." I replied "No you aren't" and walked off. Props to her for being pushy, but that gooseberry fool won't work.

You get that gooseberry fool all the time from the Romani folks in the Balkans and Romania. Did my tits in. They'll put down these Jesus cards when you're eating outside at a restaurant, wait until you pick it up then try to charge you. I just nodded to the waiter and had them thrown off the premises. 8-)

God, the charity beggers on the street are the worst. They're getting paid like, a tenner an hour, too. "Charity".

No. The worst are the ones who come to your house and start hassling you to sign up to direct debits.

My response is always "I don't donate to charity, I work for one". If most people knew what the CEO's of charities in even relatively small towns and cities across the country were earning, they wouldn't donate.

I think this happened to my old housemate with a Hare Krishna CD - he thought it was free and then the guy asked for money. I assume he gave him some because that CD was the worst musical atrocity in my entire memory.

Also happened to me with some Buddhist in New York. I gave him his pendant back and sauntered off down the street. He was not impressed.

It's the elaborate back stories that always crack me up. Their ability to weave several plot holes into a story that lasts 15 seconds is quite remarkable. They're like Christopher Nolan, but on smack.

A guy came into a takeaway I was in and asked for money for food. I offered to buy him a meal, he declined and left quite quickly. :|

Maybe he wanted to spend the money on healthy food?

Ahhhh, so that's what that is. I had that on a train to Gatwick, last week. In my case it was an Eastern European bloke who kept saying "soorree". I just ignored it. He came back to collect the tissues, said "soorree" again and off he went.

What I want to ask these public transport beggars is how they paid for their journey or whether they paid at all. Was their journey legitimate? Were they going to the job centre or did they simply feel they could play on peoples' guilt more when they confined to a train seat?

I guess if they get fined and never go to court for it it will eventually get written off or declared bankrupt so what do they care. They'll probably get escorted out eventually because they're obviously begging.

The worst one I have is a scary women who looks like she's on meth that methodically storms up really close to you demanding 20p and talking very quickly. Before you have a chance to right yourself from whatever business you are doing they storm off again muttering curses and ask everyone else in the area. It's the way they swoop, it's a bit creepy. Lank hair and shattered teeth etc. Obviously you can't take care of yourself much if you indeed have nothing but the instinct to avoid people who appear genuinely diseased is a difficult one to ignore.
