Just had a message about a Christmas present I was getting delivered to the house: "We ran into an issue when attempting your delivery"... what!? What the actual strawberry float does that tell me?!

Was it that somebody needed to be in to sign for it? Was it that you couldn't find my house? Was it that the delivery driver had an existential crisis between the van and my front door and had to be taken away for counselling? What was the actual problem?!? :x

Same energy.

I miss proper BSODs but that's still better than "your computer needs to restart because of a problem. Press any key to restart your computer"

I mean, it's one of the rare instances Apple don't insist on calling it a Mac. Because if a Mac had a problem, no that's not on.

I think there's a place for simplified messages as a large number of people probably don't care or know enough to do anything with a more detailed message, but the key thing is making sure more information is available if the user actually chooses to investigate further

Yeah. The apple screen doesn't even allude to how to do that. There's no error code at all. It does show up a report when you restart the machine, I just find the pacifying nature of it quite humorous.

On iOS as well, no error messages, anywhere, ever. The app just hangs or closes itself, sometimes repeatedly, whereas at least on android it asks you if you want to wait, restart or close the app. This was something Jobs insisted upon, because if people explicitly told their thing failed, it causes discomfort and anxiety, or rather, never display an apple logo next to an error message. It pisses me off because it disempowers users and leads to myths about reliability and attributing that to a brand.

When you go to watch a programme on-demand and it’s not there. I wanted to watch Dispatches The Truth About Your Chicken on All4 (aired Monday) and it’s either been removed or not uploaded at all.

A note would be nice, huh. ‘This programme has been temporarily removed due to …’.

On a show recently the end was literally missing (about 15 minutes) and when people complained it was missing they just deleted the whole episode, leading to people having to record it from another network and upload it to YouTube .

They also sometimes misalign the ad insertions, so you get a black screen and then the ads suddenly kick in in the midst of somebody's sentence.

Even worse sometimes they leave the clacker screens in ie the episode title (show xyz online version), number, reference codes, copyright information and colour check patterns etc, with a countdown to when they are supposed to cut that footage out playing for about 15 seconds.

I don't think anyone at Channel 4 actually watches 4OD.

Sometimes I really do miss not having Sky+. Admittedly it’s increasingly rare, but terrestrial on-demand services at times can be so bloody shonky. It just makes you want to watch it less and less to be frank, but if you care about UK documentaries and home affair type stuff it’s still really important.

I couldn’t even get the Martin Lewis Money Show to load up on my iPad yesterday either, let alone cast it over to my TV. The ever hopeless ITV Hub (and if the app crashes or programme fails to load, they damn well make sure the adverts at the start play…over and over again).

We were watching MAFS Aus recently (don't judge) and 15 minutes in the sound disappeared for the whole episode.

Turns out everyone had that issue. Real lack of quality control going on.

if the sky go stuff didn't have strawberry floating adverts (on a paid service) and require gooseberry fool like microsoft silverlight (at least last time i tried to use the pile of shite) i'd use it all the damned time. it just forces people to pirate gooseberry fool when they do this.

Actually I think we were watching that yeah. Or maybe something additionally had a whole segment missing.

4OD used to be great, like the way it basically had everything available especially compared to iplayer where everything used to disappear after 30 days. Not sure if it's a coincidence but it seemed to start getting worse after it was rebranded to All 4.

Me. I seem incapable of just thanking the bus driver once. "Cheers! Thanks!". It's a small thing but its beginning to bug me. Anyone other person who serves the public just gets the one thank you, no idea why the bus is different.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

I have a similar problem whereby I can't stop myself saying 'morning' when walking past people in the village any time of day. :x

They probably think I'm mental. Which I am to be fair. But that's not the point, I should be able to strawberry floating say 'hello' or 'afternoon' depending on the time of day, but my brain just doesn't click into gear.
