Back when my missus and I were first starting out, my dad got her a Christmas present that he'd picked because she "likes them Japanesey cartoons and things."

It was a Bakugan umbrella.

I know people mean well but I do wish they would stop with the "oh, you'll love Korea, it'll be exactly like Japan." I mean, no, Korea is its own country with its own culture and history.

I used to get this with holiday planning too. "Why don't you go to China/Korea/Taiwan/Vietnam? If you love Japan you'll love those places too!". I'm sure I will love those places (Taiwan was great!) but if I go to those places I'm going for my interest in those places not because of superficial similarities to another country.

It reduces those countries to some sort of pan-Asian monoculture and it reduces my interests to "he likes Japan and things like Japan".

The Japanese certainly thought so

I always feel it's fairer to say the Japanese imperialist state wanted that, not the people. The people are, by and large, led by a doctrine. That's how emperors work.

Smashing eyebrows. I've legit started growing some of those really long white ones.

I'm destined to become a real owl. I stay up too late.

You got in there before I tried to flex with research on the topic from last year, thank you for sparing me that :)

Seeing as I am the current Emperor of Japan, I think you should wind your neck in - peasant.

Wireless ear buds. I had a pair of JBL TUNE 110BT wireless headphones. They were lanyard-style, and I absolutely loved them, so much so that when I lost my first pair I just bought a direct replacement. Unfortunately I lost my second pair the other week and decided to give some Soundpeats earbuds a go as my wife loves her Airpods.

Mistake. There is nothing wrong with them, they do exactly what they advertise, but how does anyone cope with these?! They're seemingly held in place by witchcraft so I never really trust that they aren't going to fall out. I can't take them out without doing some form of touch command. When I do take one out to speak to someone or answer the phone I either have to hold it in my hand or I have to fiddle around opening the box to put them away properly. To top it off, on Monday I put them on the bed as I went to answer the door and the cat nicked one. My wife found it last night, but now I've mislaid the entire box.

Feel like pure gooseberry fool just want my old headphones back...

I tried wireless earbuds a while back, didn't really get on with them for various reasons. I'm sticking with wired earphones for the time being, if I ever went wireless again it would have to be over ear headphones.

On a similar subject, I can't use modern ear buds as they mostly use that awful stick in the ear hole design rsther than fill the shape of the ear, and I can't use those at all (my ear holes are small and they won't fit). Even the plain ones that do sit in the ear shape aren't fitted enough and fall straight out.

Best ones I've used have been these:

Agreed. I can't use those 'stick in the ear hole' ear buds either for the same reason. Unfortunately I cannot find a decent pair of the other style of ear phones anywhere.

Nearly every company has moved onto the ear-bud style, cause they sound better. Have you tried using the smaller buds that come with them? Otherwise your best bet is going for on-ear ones

Historically, I've never got on with in-ear earphones but my current Sennheiser ones seem to stay in my ears so much better now I've replaced the standard tips with some memory foam ones, they're ridiculously overpriced for what they are but the earbuds stay firmly in place with them.

I use these but they do loads of different ones for most brands or earphone and ear sizes.

Comply tips

The amount of people that just ignore you instead of saying "Sorry I'm busy" or "Sorry I don't want to talk anymore"

My ex and I ended on good terms, were still messaging for weeks as friends for weeks after the dust settled.

I go to message her to see how she is at the start of November and she instantly blocks me without a response.

I message her friend to ask what's up (who's one of those people who sees red, gets angry over everything and can ever see an alternate point of view) a few weeks later and she absolutely lays into me saying how awful I am, literally the worst thing I did was not respond to text messages when I was having a depressive episode.

It's pretty clear her friend has made me into the bad guy. It just feels like being in strawberry floating highschool

My ex (the one before this one) rolled her eyes at me when I self harmed and I still don't think she's a horrible person.

I don't understand why so many people have trouble with empathy. You see it online so much, people identify someone as THE ENEMY so that any shitty behaviour they engage in is justified. Pisses me off massively.

Defo better off without.

Flip the empathy point though - you didn't message for a long time due to depression (fair), but it's now a problem she doesn't respond for a long time? Maybe her mental health is bad right now, or better just now without any contact. Maybe you're easier to get over by cutting all ties.

I wouldn't have messaged the pal why your ex blocked you - it's just one of those things. It doesn't mean other people all lack empathy.
