Mother strawberry floating car broke down on the motorway this morning. In the middle of the 4 lane connection where the M4 meets the M5. Where there is no hard shoulder. At the height of strawberry floating rush hour.

Scary as strawberry float.

And to top it all I've probably got a massive repair bill as well now! :x:

Is that the bit heading towards bristol? That bit is scary enough anyway without being stood in the middle of it.

Classic Hexx, beat on a man when he's down. ;)

Here's some more moaning for you:

RAC breakdown recovery are gooseberry fool. My breakdown happened on the outskirts of Bristol at like 08:45 this morning and because it was on a motorway I was apparently a "priority" case.

2 hours later I get a call from them asking me "Whereabouts in Exeter are you mate?" WTF! I'm in Bristol you dickhead, I told you this when I first called you and then called you back again to give you even more details to make it easier to find me!

Another hour and a half later someone eventually turns up, spends some time with the car and confirms what I was pretty sure of anyway - the clutch is strawberry floated. Great, but I've got recovery to a destination of my choice as part of my cover so ask to be taken back to the garage we use in Cardiff. "Oh sorry mate I can't do that, I'll have to call it in to the RAC recovery team" :x "And how long will that be?" I ask, my patience already worn very thin. "Probably another hour or so." :x :x :x

A further hour goes by and I eventually get another call from RAC - "We're busy so we've contracted another recovery firm to get you. They'll be about another hour yet."

It's now nearly 2 in the strawberry floating afternoon and I'm still bloody stuck in Bristol! :fp:

I've seen cars stuck in live running lanes on these so called 'smart motorway' stretches a few times now, god knows how it doesn't end up in violent death each time.

Glad to hear you're ok Jen.

I was being supportive :P

Also at least it's only the clutch - could be much more expensive/worse. Do you get a hire car from insurance while it's fixed?

Maybe you shouldn't have called him a dickhead and he'd be more helpful.

Exeter has one of the best city centres i visit, though Gandy St (they often used to bang on about it on Gemini FM) was always overrated.

Yeah I'll be very grateful if it's just the clutch and, y'know for the fact I didn't get run over or anything!

Insurance don't seem keen to give me a hire car which is annoying but the garage we use is pretty good at offering one for a decent rate. Failing that if it just takes a day or two to fix then I'm going to say strawberry float it and take an impromptu couple of days off work.

I'm trying to work on not calling people dickheads as I suspect you are right that I might get more helpful responses. Sadly so many people are dickheads that it can be hard to avoid! ;)

Also - STILL waiting for the recovery truck to arrive. If I didn't have to stay by the car it would have been a good time to explore and get to know Exeter better.
