Sometimes it's just a convenient way to segue while keeping things conversational.

The AA told us the problem and we took it to a Skoda garage to get fixed and now they're saying it needs more work done beyond that and I hate this kind of thing because I don't want the car to break again or have later, more expensive, issues, but also the car is old and will not be as good as a new car and the Skoda garage are used to dealing with shiny new Skodas so I need to work out how much to shell out for now and how much to hope keeps going for longer.

Also we were on our way to the Lakes for a week away and this is gooseberry fool timing.

Quoted £4000 to fix the car so lol strawberry float no, we'll be bunny hopping it to another garage thanks

How old is the car? You could probably pick up a nice second hand equivalent for that much and it'd probably be a newer car.

10 year old Skoda Octavia

The big problem is one of the fuel injectors has failed so that needs replacing to make the car run, but then they've added all this extra bullshit they've apparently found. I don't doubt it is old and has problems but tbh I think the dealership are taking us for a bit of a ride there. Will get it to a smaller place and see what they say. Will probably end up replacing the car in the very near future.

They probably are taking you for a ride. Dealerships usually take the piss, universally. I think it's wise taking it to someone smaller/independent.

Or dealerships actually do the job properly, instead of using some tatty part they got from the breaker's yard and not bothering with why the injector failed in the first place.

You don't get that service at Available Car.
