I think you can hate something without being afraid of it either. Sure you might hate something because of an underlying fear, but still. The worst "phobic" people are the ones that don't even have a poor motive for it, they're just banana splits, and probably the most dangerous. Fascists, basically.

Normal Royal Mail 1st and 2nd class have the same delivery timescales but have no tracking or signature.

RM 1st and 2nd Class Recorded don't have any tracking, only signature and delivery confirmation.

She's right that they don't accept them unfortunately but yeah it doesn't make much sense really.

I never knew this, I must have been getting lucky previously then (the nice young woman that used to do it for me has been recently replaced with this sour faced 60 year old that every time I hand my parcels over acts as if I've just committed the most audacious act since Hitler invaded Poland).

Going to a RM depot would be a real inconvenience, especially at the moment. I think my nearest is around the back of an industrial estate.

Fascist is a far mor accurate description of people like that imo, I guess 'phobic' just makes more sense to the average person.

Yup, same. It sucked when they moved the Post Office out of its own building on the high street, and moved it a huge hill down to the bottom of town instead, but the delivery office is in the bottom corner of an industrial estate, past all the shopping markets, past even places like Screwfix and bloody tile/carpet shops.

Thanks for that cons.

I can overlook that because this was pre evil Linehan.

In all seriousness though, I've never really had a problem with separating the art from the artist. I don't know if that's a weakness on my part or not - at least, it doesn't feel like it is.

In the case of Lineham, the creation of Father Ted in the mid-90s was a fairly focused project between him, Mathews and the wonderful cast. I'd put the success of that show equally at the door of Mathews, Morgan, O'Hanlon, etc than just Lineham.

I think it'd be grossly unfair on all the others to effectively wipe the show off the face of the earth because one of the writers later on in his life came out with stuff I disagreed with.

It would explain why he's been able to live so long, he's surviving purely on the absorbed Panda life force now

Does Linehan even continue to receive money from things like Streaming services picking up shows like Father Ted and The IT Crowd? Or is it just the actual production companies that get the cash?

I'm not sure. It was Hat Trick Productions wasn't it? I assume they still have control.

I think in the mid-90s, Linehan and Mathews wouldn't have the clout to get a percentage of future profits.

He's banned from Twitter so the actual tweet isn't there anymore, but it looks like he does get royalties.

It's for the good of all the other endangered species who don't get support because pandas are so cute.

Was listening to the radio the other week when they started a news item with a really ominous "Sir David Attenborough...", and I honestly thought he'd carked it. I don't think the country could handle that right now!

Someone sent me a link to the Daily Mail website, which I haven't been on for quite a long time. Good grief, the state of all the adverts on there. :dread:

There's a massive advert at the top of the page which follows you down as you scroll. Adverts down the side of the page. An advert under the headline of the article. An advert in the article after the first few paragraphs. A video advert that pops up in the bottom-right of the screen. An advert that's in the body of the text towards the end of the article. Then after the article there are genuinely seven or eight ads before the comment section. And then even more ads after that.

And they wonder why people use ad-blockers? :fp: I could barely read the article because there was so much gooseberry fool in the way. Ridiculous.

Anything that keeps people off the DM website should be applauded IMVHO.

Why are there still people who don't use adblockers? (where they can of course)

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Sounds like Metro, which these days is an absolute mess yet cannot be accessed now while using an adblocker.
