I have a laser jet, only ever want to print black and white, each toner takes forever to run out and it’s not liquid it doesn’t dry out. Bloody brilliant. Aside from all printers being banana splits.

Don't own an inkjet unless you plan on printing at least once a week, and print a printhead nozzle check pattern if you don't.

Otherwise, it WILL die.

This, ink jets are gooseberry fool. Unless you print photos and stuff and really why bother when you can have it done at Tesco for sod all cost, it’s not worth it.

More modern inkjets seem a little better at not getting clogged now but yes you'll go through ink like crazy if you don't print often. Thanks for reminding me. :slol:

I'd rather control the process and choose the paper etc. myself though, in order to get a result that actually resembles the photo going into the printer.

Must be lucky, we've got an inkjet that gets used very infrequently (maybe a handful of times during the year) and have never really had any problems with it - turns on when needed, prints what I ask it to and then goes back into storage until needed next!

All printers are gooseberry fool. If you print stuff off you're on my shitlist.

I'd rather see you strawberry floating fax people.

Hahahaha

We used to have Kyocera printers at the NHS when i was there. Must have been easily 30% of my time was spent going to different wards to convince the luttle bastards back to life and putting in warrenty calls.
It got to the point I was in Patholigy so often for their printers I had my own mug there and tea would be waiting for me with biscuits when I arrived.

I've no need for a printer because if I need to print something I can just use the ones at work which are your typical massive units to be used hundreds of times a day.

I've been posting a few things out recently and a printer that doesn't consume ink by the gallon would be useful. Normally I'd also use work printers but I'm not in the office so I can't. I might get a little mono laser printer, they're only about £70 by the looks of it.

Do it.

For my business I use inkjet Epson WorkForce precisioncore machines, but they cost about £150-£200, both had extended 3 year warranties included, the economy is comparable to laser but I need inkjet that uses pigment inks for my tee printing and it's generally better for art stuff. Laser transfers are a bit gooseberry fool. Small asers also tend not to have any sheet feed (sometimes a bypass tray) which means you can't do anything with card etc.

The colour printheads is pretty much strawberry floated on one but I've been using it for about 5 years and the scan/copy stuff is really good (full duplex auto document feeder and scan to cloud stuff).

But for document printing it's a bad idea, a small mono laser is all most people need. ORder your colour prints online that are done on repro machines costing tens of thousands of pounds and are maintained 24/7 by expert technicians.

Don't really need a scanner either as mobiles can capture the odd document fairly well.

Looking at a business laser potentially I have it between a Kyocera or HP machine only because the latter is offering a 3 year warranty or something and has a nice interface.

Yes most inkjets run their own maintained ex routines which are pretty effective but often people switch printers off at the wall which means the printheads aren't "parked" which seals them and they remain open, this totally kills the printheads by it drying out completely. It's maybe fixable but doing it involves "flushing ink" which can get you through a couple of cartridges. Use good quality compatibles.

Again I have to stick to genuine Epson inks which aren't that expensive "per print" but are if you hardly ever use the thing and it's constantly cleaning itself more than you are printing. At that stage the economy of it makes zero sense and a small laser is a much better option.

I get cartridges from CartridgeSave and printers from PrinterLand, both are pretty decent.

My Canon printer actively gives me a snarky message if it gets switched off at the wall.

Yeah, it reminds me of most BSODS being hardware problems and nothing to do with Windows itself.

Here's an annoying thing: I had a dream the other night where I went into a charity shop and had the idea, "We should get some Fighting Fantasy shirts in." (Terribly exciting, I know) I woke up and thought, that's awesome, surely they exist, right? Do they hell.

I mean just imagine this in all-over print on a long-sleeved black T-shirt:
