It’s amazing that we have had years of horror stories about millennials but the second people start on the boomers it becomes “oh no, let’s all work together”.

strawberry floating boomers. :x

I disagree with all of the millennial bashing too, and am aware that this boomer fad is a response to that. I know throughout history generations have tended to clash (kids listening to rock 'n roll :dread: ) but with the rise of the internet it just seems to have super-concentrated the hatred, it just saddens me that's all. When we're all in our 50s/60s I wonder what the kids will call us?

Mainly though, "ok boomer" just reminds me of smug resetera types declaring how superior they are.

Of course I do  , I just don't see the value in creating another meme to bash them with. We've already got gammon.

I am sure they did, but the generation above the boomers had the advantage of being the people that defeated the Nazis, built the NHS and created the welfare state. They might not have liked rock n roll, but they did a lot to improve the world.

The boomer generation benefitted from cheap housing, free education etc and then when they got to their middle age, they took all of those things away. They then gave us Brexit and Trump, while also telling kids “just work harder”. I totally get why young people are furious with them.

They started so well that’s it’s hard not to be pissed off with boomers. They were born into the post war boom, they were the original protest generation fighting for civil rights, organising anti-Vietnam marches etc. But then they got old and greedy.

So to answer your question, our kids will also grow up to see us as monsters. ;)

I think there's too much generalisation surrounding this stuff, my parents are from the boomer generation yet they really struggled (in fact mum used to hide behind the sofa when the rent man was due, and a few years later they almost lost their home when interest rates reached 15%), it wasn't all comfortable and happy living.

The blame for a lot of problems today lie with decades of poor government, not the ordinary people, and the fact that a lot of folk from both the older and younger generations are now using any excuse to constantly attack one another, is just another example of the general atmosphere of idiocy which now exists within society.

Most boomers I know did not vote for Brexit, and those who did were hippies when they were younger. banana splits.

Of course there is too much generalising. We can only generalise though as it’s next to impossible to get the viewpoint of all the millions born between 1945 and 1965. The general feeling amongst young people is that the baby boomer generation screwed over the generations below them. That might not have been deliberate but there’s no doubt that younger people have it harder when it comes to the cost of further education and housing, with Brexit soon to come.

Generations are stupid though. I am right in the middle of the crossover between generation x and the millennials. I have very little in common (generationally speaking) with people born in the 60s and very little in common with those born in the mid 90s. I liked Thundercats when I was growing up, most of my fellow Gen Xers think that is new fangled shite and most of my fellow Millennials think that it is old fashioned shite.

But a lot of the boomer backlash is a result of their attitude towards the younger generation. It's infuriating for their generation to strawberry float the economy and the environment for the next generations and for them to turn around and give patronising advice based on their experiences that are no longer valid in today's world, or worse, when they accuse the younger generation of being lazy.

I know I'm basically saying "yeh but they started it" but, well, they did.

I'm the same. We've been described as a Micro-Generation between Gen X and Millenials (Xennials) where we're not quite fully a part of either.

We're the last generation who grew up in an analogue world before it went digital. We remember rotary phones, but got mobiles in our youth.

We had to use libraries, but probably had internet access before we hit University. We saw the death of vinyl, the rise and fall of CDs and the rebirth of vinyl.

That all sounds cool, but we also watched the cartoon Transformers and then witnessed the Michael Bay Transformers.

Dunno about you guys, but most of my generation ended up in jail, though that might have just been my specific year group.

"ok boomer" is:
- an understandable response of frustrated younger people, whose standard of living is going to be generally worse than older people
- a way for a generation who feels voiceless to engage in political discourse on some level
- a succinct and funny way to expose the fragility of some of our society's worst people

"ok boomer" is not:
- meaningful class analysis, as it deals with society's superstructure (culture) rather than base (who has power, how they use it to achieve their aims)
- the beginnings of a social movement, probably (it's just a meme)

Speaking of my street, the fat cow at No.5's pumpkins are still outside her front door.
