There's a guy on some Office Crisps UK Forums out there somewhere, in their "Things That Make You Sad" thread, saying "every day I try to make my colleague laugh with some banter but I just can't seem to cheer him up ".

What was so bad about it? Seriously, I think it's far better.

I just hate it in general. I don't like app style web pages anyway and tend to default to the browser version when the choice is there.

Come on man, you're a design professional, you can do a better criticism than "I hate it in general".

I'm in bed browsing other websites, I can't be strawberry floated to type a full critique at the moment

I had trouble with the layout of the posts, the red background being so pervasive made it kind of hard to see what was going on and the text was really small on my iPhone, though I don’t know if it’s just a default setting.

I genuinely thought that the reason the forum went down was to switch across to that and was thinking that I’d have real trouble continuing to browse on my phone as regularly as I do(for instance - right now) if that was the new normal.

With that said, a large part of my issues probably stems from not knowing the format as well as I do this one, so I guess a lot of it comes down to personal preference.

GRcade isn't broken (well, apart from yesterday ), and does not need 'fixing'

I prefer this layout too, it's cleaner, more spacious and the neutral grey is much nicer than a ton of strong colouring.

The Discourse site could be improved a lot if everything was just smaller.

I prefer the old layout to, but that may just be familiarity.

Is it possible for threads in discourse to be split into pages?

Chalk up another for the "everything is too big" crowd. This is the major issue for me at the moment, it feels like I see far less of the forum at any one time. Lots of whitespace between posts etc.

Also, as we are now the alternating background shades on the main page make it easier to discern individual threads/forums. In Discourse it's just a white (or dark) mass that is immediately harder to parse.

The "jump to latest post" function is small and I frequently mis-press it. The in-thread post scroller is similarly tiny and fiddly.

The "Suggested Topics" section is pointless and messy.

Dammit I just prefer pages to a continuous scroll.

EDIT: None of this is stuff I couldn't learn to live with though. It's all about preference

Where's everyone seeing loads of colour and red on Discourse? I use the dark theme on it... So?

Yeah please let's not move to that nasty new site.

Firstly, there's a side bar on desktop, and a post number bar at the bottom on mobile you can use to jump to any post/date of a thread rather than scrolling.

Secondly, once you've read part of a thread, Discourse will remember where you last read and take you there automatically next time.

Colour and size stuff I'm more sympathetic too, and we would have complete control over that sort of thing.

I remember when we moved to the current phpbb theme and most people hated it

I don't think I've ever witnessed a big change to a site (including the likes of Facebook, Twitter etc) that people didn't hate at first because it's such a shock to the system.
