Every site I’ve used the provider has declined the payment, despite being well under the amount loaded on the card. What sites do these strawberry floating things work on, exactly? Any advice appreciated, as I’m a bit tired of trying different shops attempting to find something that is just the right amount only to be declined.

I used one at Liverpool FC's official store without hassle, though I appreciate that's not much use to you.

The way things are going with this bloody thing, as of 5 minutes ago I’m now a massive Liverpool fan and want to buy all their merchandise.

I feel like I've got around this issue with a Visa one by adding it as a payment option on my PayPal account then purchasing using PayPal. Can't guarantee that was what worked for me but I feel like it was. But had to make sure the spend was bang on or underneath as at the time I couldn't split the payment between different cards/payment methods. Might be possible with that newer method of splitting bills, not sure.

He's great, but Taf used to do this a lot. "So you're saying that women shouldn't be allowed out of the kitchen? That's... well that's problematic"

I... sometimes do that too...

Most card payment processors are probably adding fraud prevention checks - if there isn't a physical address associated with the "card" then it will fail as the match will come back empty. Maybe there's a MasterCard website where you can register it and add address information?

This is called an AVS check, as if anyone cares.

Ah yeah, I think I had to register my Visa card to use it which probably helped it go through.

I've been given those before, and yeah they're a right hassle. On the card that came with it was something like "use me just like a debit card!" or some bullshit, but because you don't get a PIN with it, you can't actually use it in a shop like, y'know, a debit card.

I found two places that accepted it; Debenhams, and John Lewis. I just bought a load of John Lewis gift cards, as I was getting close to the expiry and they were deducting money from it each month :x :fp:

The fact that i have to mask up on public transport, yet some guy can board the train without one and spend his time swigging a full bottle of Jack Daniels and getting shouty, with no members of staff to be seen anywhere.

I ended up purchasing Amazon virtual gift cards with the virtual Mastercard. More money into the bank of Bezos. :fp:

The price gouging on Uber Eats and Deliveroo is unbelievable. Every menu item is at least 20% more expensive than in-store, £2 delivery fees from places less than half a mile away, and then a 10% service fee top of everything?

I just saw a 2 for 1 offer on Krispy Kreme glazed dozens, and with all the above bullshit, it's literally more expensive that two separate dozens.

My partner visited his nan the other day as shes been self isolating and wanted some company and they went to order McDonalds through Uber Eats. The nearest maccies to his nans is less than a mile away. They wanted £3.99 because it's "far away from the restaurant"

It definitely didn't used to be that kind of mark up. Suspect they've bumped it up to take advantage of the current situation.

I think Uber eats doesn't make money as it is, so it's only going to get more expensive.

And Uber closed something stupid like 70 offices last month. They're still hemeraging money (1 bill quarter usually, but more when they need to pay a fine or write something off) and apparently only actually make a profit in about half a dozen cities worldwide.

The service fee is fairly new as part of a reshuffling of delivery fees, but I think it came in just before lockdown.

The markup on individual items has always been the case, though. KFC adds about £4 to all of their buckets.

The retailers will be doing this because previously these delivery services would take MASSIVE 30-40% cuts and drive the actual restaurants out of business. So now the businesses are saying strawberry float that and upping their delivery prices if you want to get takeaway.

Much better off just phoning them and collecting it. The fees those apps charge the businesses are insane.

Just order from the restaurants direct and cut out the middle man/woman.

I had a Domino’s over the weekend for the first time in around 4 months as they had 50% off. Was flawless. Arrived in 15 minutes. Driver was also wearing a mask.

On the basis of the ticket number though, orders appeared to be down by at least 40% on a normal Saturday.
