Buttons you can press that - when pressed - don't actually do what they're supposed to. I have a monitor with a power button just like this. Press the button, and you have to press it in the right way to actually turn it on. It's utter bullshit. That shouldn't be possible, and is just down to badly designed products. So much crap is badly designed, and it really pisses me off. It's like companies don't test gooseberry fool, they just churn it out and hope for the best.

Also, Christmas. I wish it would strawberry float off already. One day of the year that people insists on dragging out into two months of bullshit: crap music on repeat for weeks, crap films and TV programmes that everyone's seen before, an insane need to buy stuff for the sake of it, awful-looking lights and decorations that clutter everything up, and everyone losing their minds about having to have a good time and seemingly intent on forcing everyone around to get caught up in it all as well. I just don't understand how people aren't sick of the same gooseberry fool year after year.

Must say, I've been getting a bit tired of Christmas the last few years. It's not so much the associated customs in and of themselves that bother me but more the speed in which it comes round again every year. I feel like I only just put away the tree for last year and now I'm going to have to go up to the loft and bring the banana spliting thing down again. Would be preferable if it was celebrated once every, let's say, three years.

Christmas held every four years with Easter held every two years in between, with family members going through qualifiers in the build up to each on who gets to go to Nan's on the big day.

I look forward to Christmas every year. I feel almost like everything I do is building up to it each time, as though it's the series finale.

If Christmas didn't exist, I think I would find it really depressing to just exist without the idea of some kind of major year end event in mind. I know that's probably really weird .

As someone who always gets a long week off around Easter this would suck for me.

I strawberry floating love Christmas but I do have sympathy with people who don't like it, as it's impossible to avoid.

I can't see a time when I don't love the build up to Christmas.

Also, Twixmas, the part between the day itself and NYE is just an incredible, God-tier existence. That moment you realise you genuinely don't know what day it is, but you do know that you're just about ready for another round of cheese and wine... it just doesn't get any better.

Christmas tends to be a time that I struggle with my mental health and particularly loneliness. Even spending time with family doesn't really help, it just reminds me how alone I am. My parents have each other, my brother and sister-in-law have each other and the kids. I feel like an extra and then I get to go home on my own. I pretend to enjoy it for the kids sake but honestly it just makes me feel empty. And there is literally no escape from it.

Outside of my own mental health though I just increasingly find Christmas bizarre. I'm not a child, don't have children so the magic isn't there for me. I'm not Christian or pagan so the religious aspect isn't there. And I see my close family regularly through the rest of the year so there's not even that aspect of it for me. And even when it comes to work I end up having to pay some time back (depending on when Christmas falls) so it's not like I even get a free day off. It just feels like every year is a bunch of people telling me I should be happy because its Christmas.

I've been opting out as much as I can over the past few years and feel much better for it. Last year was just a quiet one with my parents so I didn't have to fake anything for my nephew and niece and since there was no fuss and no pressure it was the best one I'd had in years.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

My dad's decided he "no longer wishes to see" me and attempted to claim he cancelled an entire gathering, because I asked him two questions about his inheritance and provisions my grandfather made but which disappeared (he's a rich strawberry floater and lied about it twice).

Not seen each other in two years because of covid. Grade A cuntery and cowardice, that.

"Despite everything, you have my best wishes".

Despite WHAT, narcissistic dork.

From your previous posts, he sounds like a weird dude (the conference call thing), so probably best not bothering with him now.

I agree. I visited the beach and recalled, this is just one man on the expanse of the earth and he has no power over me.

Although he also threatened to cut me out of his will. No matter, anyone can contest a will, and win. After all, he'll be dead anyway. The discussion wasn't even about money, it was understanding the extent of my late grandfather's success as a designer.

Turns out it was around 1.2 million in the end.

"I was not left huge sums of money".

Had nothing whatsoever to say about my mother's battle with cancer and the complications of your guts being cut out. Completely ignored my letters. I was talking about worrying about the cost of energy bills. I was talking about the very real struggles in my life leading up to this time of year.

Why does a strawberry floating DOG need to count the days until Christmas?

It's just an excuse for you to give your dog a treat a day, I don't really see the problem.
