I've always wondered something with drivers.

If you are waiting to cross a road when cars are annoyingly only hurtling down every time you step into the road to cross, so you step back, then another car shows up, you step onto the road, another shows up etc. Pedestrian activates the crossing, no cars show up, so cross the road... then the crossing goes green and the car that was "late" has to stop for 30 seconds by which time the pedestrian is already walking down the other side of the road past the car sitting there like a lame duck.

I've never really known whether that irritates drivers, or whether its the previous drivers' fault for not letting someone cross quickly in the first place. Cos the only other option the pedestrian has is, besides slowing down the traffic with the crossing (to not do so is actually courteous for drivers), is just running accross and potentially getting run over / causing a swerve/hard break/accident when another car does come speeding along at exactly the wrong moment.

I think most drivers understand that sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles, so to speak. It can be frustrating but unless the pedestrian is maliciously pressing the button just to piss of drivers then it's hardly their fault!

Idiots will obviously use it as a reason to fly into a rage, and if you do it to Liam Neeson he'll probably track down and murder anyone that looks vaguely like you, but it's best not to worry about that.

Speaking of crossings, we stayed in the cardiff bay area for a gig on Sunday (tears for fears, was very good. Shame the woman in front of us was like an 8ft tall shrek tribute act crossed with the TWO WEEKS woman from total recall), and we had a nice 10 min walk along a big wide pavement area to get to the centre. There's side roads most of the way along, with lights for pedestrians but hardly any traffic so no need to use it. Some hipster coming the other way had his nose burried in his iPhone, saw a parked car and decided to press the button, nothing was coming, it went green and he stood looking at his phone the entire time not even noticing, we walked past and laughed, then it went red and THEN he decided to cross :fp:

That reminds me of an answer Peter Beardsley once gave in a player interview in the Newcastle programme.

"What would you do if you became invisible?"
"I'd stand at a pelican crossing and keep pressing the button all day!"

Thanks for the feedback :toot:

The worst thing for crossing is when crossing what drivers perceive as a "T-junction" when it's actually an alleyway with no traffic at all, with cars coming up it once in a blue moon at about 5mph. BMWs, audi's mostly going strawberry floating mental on the horn because you cross an alleyway. Just wait for strawberry float's sake! Your "road" is intersecting the actual pavement, it's not a dual carriageway. Normally this is on a high street at the top of a hill or bottom of a valley, where for thousands of years it was likely a public right of way with a couple of horses. The sooner vehicles get banished to the sky the better.

Pedestrians very rarely annoy me unless they do something very stupid.

Buses, taxis, cyclists and other cars drive me insane though.

So you're annoyed that when you stepped out onto a road in front of an oncoming car that they got annoyed with you?

People who don't put their lights on when the driving conditions are poor.

It was absolutely strawberry floating hammering it down with rain on the motorway this morning so visibility was really bad, yet some arseholes are still chugging along with no lights on like their cruising down strawberry floating Ocean Drive or something. :x

South Wales driving - the post

Nobody around here uses their lights properly. I'm convinced there's one gooseberry fool driving instructor that trained all the people around, because as you say it's middle lane, lights off, 55mph all day long no matter the conditions. I had a conversation with somebody who does it a few years back and his reasoning is that he can see perfectly well so lights aren't needed. His blank expression when I said it was so other people can see you said it all.

That's the thing I often wonder, has someone taught these idiots to be this gooseberry fool? Surely just falling back on common sense most people would think - I can't see very well so people might struggle to see me, best put my lights on. What do they think everyone else has their lights on for, because we're morons?!

I knew someone who didn't know how to refill the windscreen washer fluid on his car. For four years. Only learnt how to when he had to do the weekly check of the office car.

I've only been driving a couple years but I've quickly come to the conclusion that most people don't have a clue what they are doing. Or don't care.

I think part of it may be down to automatic headlights. There are definitely situations where the automatic ones don't come on and I think they probably should. I don't know whether there is a setting you can adjust in your car though to change the limit.

This could well be a factor, although you see plenty of people doing it in cars which clearly don't have automatic headlights.

Also even with automatic lights you as the driver are still responsible for driving safely and should turn them on if the car doesn't do it for you!

This. I had a bus fly out in front of me on a really small roundabout last night. Had to come to a standstill on it to let him past, the strawberry floater.

I don't know if all mobile operators are like this, but why does it take so damn long when topping up your phone for it to be applied. I ran my credit down to 8p, but O2 still haven't topped it up after 40 minutes. They sent me the text message however saying it had been topped up instantaneously...

People who don't load the dishwasher properly!

Plates in at odd angles, cups not placed upside down, cutlery all over the shop - sometimes just chucked on the "floor" of the dishwasher, bowls either too far apart that it's wasting space or right on top of each other so they won't actually get clean... WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!
