When i was at school, the 'computer room' consisted of half a dozen BBC Micros.

This was 1994, but then, the school library didn't have any books in it either.

We started off with BBC Micros, but they upgraded to Nimbus computers around about ‘94.

At junior school we didn't even have computers. At secondary schol our computer room was a hut with six BBC Bs in it... they were awesome. I used BBC Bs and Nimbus computers at college with Amstrad floppy-disk PCs arriving in the second year; we coded in COBOL on them  .

We had Acorns and one BBC Micro or two I think. I strongly remember playing some game and hitting "Print Screen", then shitting myself because it literally printed the screen on a very loud dot matrix printer. Obviously those got replaced with Pentiums and Windows 98/95 several years later.

We had Acorn Archimedes computers until the end of year 10, then they got changed to RM Windows 98 PCs over the summer holiday. An entire year's worth of IT GCSE coursework was lost. I got a grade D in GCSE ICT.

Ah that's the one. RM. Weren't they funded by the "IT for Schools" vouchers you got from Tesco's or Safeways?

Our ICT teacher had social anxiety and didn't come to class most of the time. Subsequently they got 2 subs in with a short course that was only supposed to get us a maximum of a C. I got a B anyway because I'm l33t in MS Publisher.

If it makes you feel any better, everyone in my year lost their ICT coursework too. They didn't change any hardware, mind, that was just through sheer incompetence.

Luckily I didn't take ICT! :msgreen:

I think Nimbus and RM are/were the same company.

Yeah, our college computers were called RM Nimbus. I recall using really basic desktop publisher software on 'em... and a paint programme that had the power of MS Paint :slol: .

...thinking about it, there were only two computers in the large banking office (around 70 people) that I started work in. It was before Excel arrived... Lotus 1-2-3 ruled the spreadsheet world!

My school lost my IT coursework too, ended up getting an F despite it being one of my strongest subjects.

Rather perversely I somehow got an A in RE without a single minute of revision and writing a load of bollocks in the exam.

That happened to me as well. Our teacher just rabbited on for hours about different gooseberry fool and we barely did any studying. When it came to it the paper was something about abortion and something else, I just wrote what I thought and some different arguments and got a B, loads of people just couldn't be bothered and slept or missed the paper netting an average of what seemed like D-G across the cohort . I guess it was more about structuring a coherent argument and actually having opinions, some kids just can't be strawberry floated to write anything and don't care. In that sense it was an easy exam for me.

GCSEs really stressed me about and presented me with some of my first challenges with depression but upon reflection it was a joke sometimes. And I really don't believe in the effectiveness of the examination model at all.

Our computer room had a load of acorn Archimedes and a few bbc micros. We used to spend our lunch times playing zarch :datass:

The woman who supervised us accused us of mutilating the mice (quote thread).

Best/worst thing we did was learn ultra simple programming where you'd make it so pressing escape only moved the program on, so before we left we'd run it on every machine. A load of colours, then lines drawing from each corner before finally flashing "MR LEE STINKS OF gooseberry fool!". MR Lee being the nice janitor man who'd done absolutely nothing wrong and didn t deserve it at all, but we found it hilarious :fp:

I somehow received a D in Drama despite not doing anything at all for 2 years. The kids that liked drama would do all of the work and the group I was in literally just sat away from them and we just chatted and messed around. Maybe the teacher thought we were improvising a performance of how lazy kids would behave in a classroom.

Ugh, Drama, they always made us do group work and i seemingly always ended up having to do it with a bunch of morons.

One piece of work took a whole bunch of weeks to get ready, then when the day of performing it came, two of my group disappeared into the next room and eventually returned dressed like a pair of old ladies.

They insisted on scrapping the planned performance and the whole thing ended up as an utter disaster.

Ah Drama, how I strawberry floating hated that subject, along with Music it was always just an hour of pissing about doing nothing and then getting homework which I very rarely bothered to do.

We had to pick one of Drama, Music or Art for GCSE and I didn’t like any of them. I chose drama just because I knew the teacher was a soft touch and that the art and music teachers were horrible.

I did Art as my GCSE subject and ended up getting a C even though most of my work was half arsed doodling disguised as abstracts.

Abstracts are pretty disgusting to be fair.
