Enough of that let’s get back on in topic, though I don’t want you to think that I’m setting myself up as some sort of self elected chairperson - just see me as a facilitator.

I’ve been away this weekend and forgot my personal phone so have been using my work phone which is an iPhone and strawberry float me is the keyboard on these things terrible. It’s genuinely close to being unusable. Taken me about 5 minutes just to write this bloody comment because it’s so slow, inaccurate and unintuitive!

People who have no business being given design and layout work, being given that work "because they've got adobe" ( :dread: ). Ive just been given something to fix last minute that a printer has rejected, and looking at the files it's totally unsuitable for printing. Argghhhhhhh

Jobsworths/total nutters working in retail. I was literally threatened with calling the police multiple times and banned from Homebase for asking to return £10 of items that were mispriced, so I paid 500% more than I thought I was going to based on the labelling. Had a full on anxiety attack and so explained I couldn't converse any further, please issue my refund and I'll leave (guy was still yelling at me that he will call the police because... I complained a bit). I took them back because I wasn't happy with the mark-up and confusing nature of the way they price gooseberry fool in that store (any reasonable person will know what I mean, labels for this stuck to that, items situated next to labels that aren't that thing, and so on. A perfectly reasonable and regular occurrence that can be forgiven quickly, but no... I was asking for trouble!).

That's right, I've been banned from Homebase. What ever will I do?

Don't listen to the customer and apologise for any confusion caused; nah just threaten to call the police and evict them. What kind of paranoid banana split was I dealing with here? I don't want to know. It's probably illegal (certainly with regards to consumer rights legislation) and unenforceable anyway so I'll probably just wander in with slightly different clothes next week and I seriously doubt they will notice. But why the strawberry float would I want to?

I've never been more embarrassed in my life. What a strawberry floating melter, I hope he loses his job and dies of anger.

Checked out their Trustpilot and there are various reviews of similarly horrible customer service encounters; and they've exploited a loophole in Facebook to categorise their page as a "Community", so there are no reviews. Hmmm... That's not remotely suspicious as to the public perception of this brand at the minute. I know they are going under (I've popped in twice now - yup a repeat customer - to check out the "Unmissable Clearance Event"), but still, how do these people keep their jobs as customer service people.

My local one closed a couple of years ago. Awful place. Like a poor man's B&Q. Used to be very good in the 90s when I think Sainsbury's owned it, and then gradually got worse and worse. Probably on its last legs these days.

Tend to use my local garden centre or Wilko, or if I know I need advice B&Q (they always have somebody stationed at the door to greet you/ask questions)

Apparently our local Wickes is fine if you know what you want but the staff are completely useless.

I was banned from a convenience store once, though i wouldn't have been so sore about it had i actually done something to warrant said bannage in the first place.

The woman at the till accused me of opening up the plastic magazine bags (a lot of gaming mags used them at the time) and reading them, but i never actually did that, ever.

Several days passed, then when i went back, she told me i was banned!

It was bullshit, and in my anger i called her a slapper before storming out.

Our local Homebase is either closing or is possibly already closed by this point -it was a few months ago that I last checked!

A lot of what I use DIY stores for is to buy tools or small items like screws etc. which I can just buy online these days so I'm not surprised that they are doing badly when you combine that with shite customer service!

Today's annoyance - strawberry floating keyrings! Trying to get in the car earlier and my keys have done that thing where they've strawberry floated each other in my pocket and refuse to de-couple! :x

I use Screwfix these days if I need anything DIY-ish. Order online, collect a few minutes later.

 Yeah it was something just like that. A ridiculous power trip.

I do use Screwfix, and they are 2 minutes away from Homebase, so I only go in when there is clearance to spot some things. Example: big brass door push plate, was £16, now £1.80. That's actually worth it just for the material, to grind down and then mill into a plaque for example.

I'm not sure if this is the case any more (I hope not as I won't be sending my quids to Homebase wherever possible) but Scewfix were the same parent company as Homebase, so it kind of sucks to know one good stop in my experience is totally at odds with the gooseberry fool one moments away :/

I used to go to Homebase when it was something else (Texas or Texaco something) with my mum, so there's something ritualistic and nolstagic browsing for bargains or odd home improvement there. The only benefit is you can see the product before buying it. The staff here at Screwfix are happy to bring things out for a gander (usually, occasionally the groan about it) but, I think that sort of thing is all Homebase has going for it at the moment. Reviews on trustpilot are horrendous especially for kitchen installations. Seems to be a brand that has no accountability and will do everything possible to avoid the customer while still taking money for big ticket items like that, then strawberry floating it up royally.

I also left in anger as I'm not going to tolerate being bullied by an asshat on a powertrip. Once he had followed me out of the shop I just looked him in the face and said, "You're a banana split" and walked off. Not much else that can be done. Some people need to be told they're despicable and I don't care what his circumstances are, nobody deserves to be driven to breaking point under harassment like that, being ridiculed in front of about 6 other random strangers just for asking to return something. It's that which is criminal. Totally boggles the mind how he thought that was appropriate action, like I was shoplifting or trying to mug off the shop with a used return or something.

Honestly as he kept banging on about my "high horse" (not true, it's their own in-store policy to accept returns within 30 days for any reason, never mind consumer law) I think it was just because I was about a foot taller than him. Classic small-man syndrome. I didn't say anything remotely offensive until I was forced out.

Our local b&q is pretty poor. I mean it's got everything you need, but only one type of each, so if you don't like a particular thing you're out of luck. There's a mini screwfix just down the road right by work which is like an argos pickup point and it's strawberry floating brilliant. Click and collect within about 20 mins usually, or if they don't have it you'll get it from there the next day. I get everything from there now and don't bother with the b&q. There's also a wicks just down the road in Newport which is a really good one.

Online, I use cpc farnell who are really good. I bought all of the Adcade bits from there.

If something costs more than you think it should when they ring it up you go “oh sorry, it’s thought this was x £” you don’t buy it then kick off to the point someone is going to call the police.

Sorry I don’t see any route from “price is wrong” to “and they called the police” that isn’t the customer acting like an angry toddler that’s been told they can’t have sweets for breakfast.

strawberry floating lowballers on eBay.

I'm selling a decent camera lens, in mint condition. They go for £160, easily, every time. They cost £330 new. I've put a starting bid price of £120 on there. banana splits keep offering me £100/110 for it.

I'm trying to stay nice in my responses, but honestly to strawberry float...

Some people just have the mentally that haggling is always acceptible -or just expected- which in circumstances like that where it's easy to see a market comparison I find odd to the point of offensiveness.
