People come in sick because a lot of bosses are banana splits. If you are ill for one or two days the default assumption is that you're faking it or you're a limp-wristed metrosexual pansy who gets sick when someone breathes on you. My boss is one of those who has only had 1 sick day in about ten years, but thankfully he's not too much of an arsehole when it comes to his employees' sickness.

My current place - and I think every place I've worked at actually - has a policy where if you're ill you call your manager in the morning and tell them you're ill, and you then work from home. I think there's always been a reluctance to do this though. If you call your manager and say "I have a cold, I'm going to work from home", I think there's a tendency to feel like that won't wash, and so people just don't bother and come in anyway. It's only if you're really ill, or have an injury or something, that people tend to follow this and work from home. I think it's a fear of not being believed.

That's a gooseberry fool policy isn't it? If you're ill you have a strawberry floating day or two off to recover, not to work from home.

Sorry I actually meant stay at home, not work from home. My current place is actually good at making sure they tell you, "if you're off sick then you're off sick, don't work".

I didn't think advertising could be any more obnoxious. I was wrong.

So big they've had to fill it with EMPTY SPACE.

Why do you not have an adblocker?

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Narrr his time will be split between posting and wanking so his post count will probably drop.

I’m 39. One wank a month sounds like too much effort.

That people will just sit with the lights off rather than just turn them on. There's two strips of lights that run the length of the office and every single morning, one of the strips is off and people are sat in the dark working. I'll turn them on (The switch is right in the middle) and someone will go, "Oh wow, light! I wondered why it was so dark".

Turn the strawberry floating lights on then.

I used to like leaving the lights off when I was first in at my old place.

Now the lights are all automatic.

It’s slightly different but in bad weather my mate Johnny is always moaning about his vision. As soon as the rain has gone he can see clearly, but any dark clouds leave him blind.
