I've had the hiccups 3 times today, it eventually goes away but then I'll cough or breathe too deeply and here we go again.

It's a cold morning, the air is crisp and clear, so what do the people in my street do? They start their car engines and leave them idling for half an hour just so they don't have to use an ice scraper on the windscreen.

The air outside stinks as a result.

I booked a meeting room because I had to present to a contractor. Go to the room.for my allotted time and there's a meeting over running in there. I made my presence known and gave them a few mins to wrap up. They didn't wrap up. I then knocked and opened the door (we're told to do this as part of meeting etiquette) and they were just sitting chatting. Get the strawberry float out of the room! They then looked dumbfounded when I asked them to leave, pointing out how we had a contractor waiting on the line for me. I was then late to the meeting due to waiting for them to clear out, then getting the call and presentation going.

For strawberry float sake.

Looking for gifs and how everything seems to be on sites like giphy, which now make you jump through a million hoops just to find a usable link. All I want is a direct link to the image. I don't want a facebook link, or some other gooseberry fool. Just a link to an image that ends .gif.

banana splits.

The fact that my local GP surgery charged mum a staggering £164 for a single line doc letter which she needed to sort out something basic at the solicitors.

£164 for what must have been around 2 mins of typing (and that includes printing time), bloody robbers!

Sam Smith - I Feel Love. Now I have a strong dislike for Sam Smith's voice at the best of times. Whiney, grating and with a horrible nasal quality, but this latest cover song just ramps it up a whole extra notch.

Genuinely painful to listen to.

Having spent a few hours on the motorway yesterday - Middle Lane Campers.

And then driving in the evening - push bikes with no or next to no lights, reflective gear etc. And you just know they'll blame you if you hit them in the matte black ninja gear

Royal Mail strawberry floating handling fees.

I understand I have to pay import VAT. Most places have the courtesy to mark low value stuff as gifts, but fine. It was like three quid. Whatever.

Tell me, though, why the strawberry float I have to pay Royal Mail an extra £8 just for holding it to strawberry floating ransom, when it was a DHL parcel to begin with?!

You're essentially paying for the work that goes into them customs clearing the goods for you. It pays for someone to take the details from the parcel label, look for the appropriate commodity code, process it through the customs systems, enter the charge onto their system, pay the charge to customs and then collect it from you.

All the couriers do this as well, because it's not covered by the cost of postage which is literally for moving the goods from A-B and doesn't take into account potential import charges (Because a lot of the time there aren't any). Royal Mail are actually the cheapest, with Parcelforce at £12 and couriers generally charging a percentage.

You can ask that Royal Mail or Parcelforce do not do that work for you, by getting the sender to mark the parcel as "To be customs cleared by importer". However you then need to do the import declaration yourself which is not something for the faint of heart. I do customs advice for my job and what you might save in the £8 you would almost certainly lose in time and sanity. There is a reason why companies make a lot of money doing these declarations for people professionally.

But it is a pain in the arse when you have something that is maybe only just over the £15 threshold as their fee will be bigger than the actual Customs charges.

Noisey eaters.

I know we've been over this many times before, but how the hell is it possible to be so oblivious to the disgusting slurping sloppy noises (context bait) that can be heard half way across the room? Shut the strawberry float up.

Tangentially related to this, but since actively trying to lose weight, it becomes very apparent just how much people snack all the time.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Yeah it's not popular, for obvious reasons.

It's just another thing to take into account when buying anything from outside the EU.

The amount of grief I get about it at work is crazy, especially as Royal Mail have a habit of telling customers it's part of our charges.
