I think it tends to be because of that initial hit where a website tries to load up a bazillion adverts, videos, and graphics all at once and there's either not enough RAM or the processor can't handle it.

Or like Eurogamer recently, that introduced hidden adverts - so if you tap any part of the screen it launches an advert or takes you to another website entirely. Eurogamer used to be my go-to website in the '00s and now I visit maybe once or twice a month (usually because of a Digital Foundry article).

My smartphone really struggles with sites like this now as well.

Same here on a 2018 ipad and an s10+ it cab take sodding ages fot the page to ready or it'll look ready then strawberry float of somewhere else or just crash Firefox.

I still use an IPad 2 and yes this is why.

THe CPU and RAM just can't handle loading so much JavaScript and other multimedia into the browser at once, so the app force quits itself.

The only website I can reliably view every single day is... GRcade

I have all the ads blocked via extensions.

It's an issue on android mobile devices as well, especially as Google blocks adblocking apps from the play store, so they need to be sideloaded, and the default android chrome browser doesn't allow the same extensions as the desktop version.

its shocking - its like a vicious cycle, less people visiting your website? got to put more ads on the page to pay for it, less people visit because of said ads

The people (mainly women) who are obsessed with drinking litres of water every day, to the point of carrying a bottle of it everywhere they go and now buying 'smart' bottles that track the exact amount drunk and flash to remind you to drink every few minutes.

What's wrong with just drinking when you're actually thirsty? no wonder there's so many ads for incontinence underwear, anyone, weak bladder or not, would be constantly pissing drinking every twenty strawberry floating seconds.

I must admit I've been mainlining water since I started working from home (and consequently pissing every 20 seconds :slol: ), but I can't imagine being the sort of person who would buy a 'smart' water bottle.

I never used to drink that much in my 20's. And it was fine. I'm finding that I need to drink about 1.5 to 2 litres a day now. I don't really keep track of it though.

If I only drink water when I "feel thirsty" I tend to end up under-hydrated. Pissing yellow, feeling like gooseberry fool. I usually have a pint of water on the go at any moment when at home, probably drink about 3-4 litres on a good day.

This. I’d rather piss lots than be dehydrated and feel like gooseberry fool.

I probably don't drink enough (I reckon around a litre on a good day) but its more difficult for me to be going to the toilet every half hour and as I need to use a straw to drink I usually end up swallowing a lot of air and get quite bloated which then makes me feel like gooseberry fool all day.
