I just use 'thanks' or 'thank you'.

Maybe I should quantify the amount of thanks from now on. I'll start saying many thanks, but then what happens when the favour isn't much at all? "Not so many thanks" or "less thanks" or "minimal thanks"?

Argos and the ritual of nothing ever being in stock. I never used to notice it before, but now it's almost all the time.

I also check Click and Collect for the surrounding area (and by surrounding area I mean 'whole of England') and there's still no stock.

*I don't want to shop with Amazon...I don't want to shop with Amazon...strawberry float it, I'm shopping with Amazon*

Companies constantly bitch about people using Amazon for everything but they really do make it hard not to some times.

To be fair, isn't this likely covid related?

Argos's online shop use to be pretty good, it definitely seems to have got alot worse over the past year.

I hate how you'll search for something on Ebay and Argos comes up as the top result, but they'll only let you reserve the item for pickup and they seemingly only have it in stock in a single store in the country which just happens to be so far away from you they refuse to tell you where it actually is :x Why are Argos even selling stuff on ebay anyway? They've got their own sodding storefront already :dread:

Maybe, but you would think after a year of this the "we aren't as good as normal because of Covid" thing would be ending.

Yes there is Covid and people are at home and gooseberry fool but seriously after a year you haven't managed to find a way to get the level of service you had ?

Its like when you phone a company "our wait times are longer because of covid" fuuuuuuuck off, its been a year if you haven't worked out how to get people working at home what the strawberry float have you been doing!

I'm a "Best wishes," for more important / formal emails, and an "All the best," otherwise. Or I'll just write my name if the email is one line / very casual.

Rarely get to use "Many thanks," as it seems a bit aggressive to me to thank someone while making the request - I don't take it that way when I see it, but I feel awkward writing it. If I needed to thank someone in advance I would prefer to include e.g. "Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide with this" as a closing sentence as that feels more sincere to me when I'm sat there overthinking how to write emails ( :slol: ). If I'm sending a specific thank you note I'll often sign off "Thanks again," though to really ram that politeness home.

A suprising number of companies do it, Currys PC World is on there too, I've bought switch games via them through Ebay as it was cheaper than other places including their own damn site!

Oh don't get me started on Argos' stock system. Now that really is something worthy of ridicule. I remember complaining about the exact same thing 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago: "Why don't Argos have an internal transport network for online orders?".

So for a certain item, if there's say a 100 in stock in the Newcastle warehouse and no stock in Birmingham - and nobody in Newcastle wants it but 100 people in Birmingham try to buy that item online, Argos won't sell a single one of them. They'll just stay gathering dust in the Newcastle warehouse as all those customers buy elsewhere.

I've lost count over the years how much money I would have sent Argos' way but ended up going to Amazon because they refused to sell me stuff they actually had in stock.

Stock issues aren't really WFH related, the problems might be in their supply chain rather than with them. I guess they should be re-sourcing by now though.

Amazon is no doubt a much better service, but that's been built upon completely abusing worker's rights wherever they can.

I only ever use "Thanks", but if I've already thanked them in the body of the email, I just sign off with my name. They don't get thanked twice.

I usually sign off my emails with a simple "Regards" for work stuff, it's the easiest default option IMO.

We've got a standardised email signature format that we're supposed to use that encourages everyone to put their full title including professional qualifications (BSc SSc etc.) on there but I never like to use that as then I just get loads of people questioning whether I'm a "real doctor"!

I don't see why your swimming certifications should be of anyone else's concern :?

Let's all agree that starting an email with just someone's name is the most aggressive thing anyone can ever do.

I don't know if this is still the case with Argos/Sainsbury's, but they used to stock some items twice in store at two different price points. So if you went over to the Argos desk, batteries or Brita filters would be one price, but if you went to the Sainsbury's part of the store, they'd be another. The same company acting independently of each other under the same roof.

That's the clue though isn't it? Me having a swimming certificate and not being able to swim!

A few years ago I bought something from PC World as it was cheaper than anywhere else. I went to the store and was told "that's the online price only, you'd have to order it online and then come pick it up".

I quickly ordered it on my phone and went back to the counter.

"Sorry, you have to wait an hour after ordering to pick it up"

Twats.
