Whoever comes to the door just lie and tell them you also do their job. Roofer? Mastered it, mate. Driveway? Laid it myself, bruv. Windows? Fitted it with these bare hands. Jehovah's Witness? Pretend to be deaf. Sorry, can't hear a word you're saying...

I have really funny memories of them calling at home when I was a kid. My ma always shouted for us to be totally quiet and not move. So we all just dived under the window sill and hid until they left.

In one of the university libraries today (the busy, noisy one because all my places in the nice quiet one had been taken) and everyone around me sounded like they were going to cough up a lung. No one was wearing masks, no attempt to cover their mouths, just happy to cough everywhere. Since I don't want to catch something and the noise was just too much I've ended up coming home. I'm probably going to be infected with whatever it is so RIP me.

I'm always surprised at hearing about people's problems dealing with religious door-knockers (although speaking of knockers the last JW that came round had some sizeable ones).

I just politely say "nah, I'm not really into all that.." and then say thanks as I'm closing the door. Only takes a few seconds.

Been on hold for an hour and fifty minutes with the hospital about an appointment, and in that time I've only moved from 6th to 3rd in the queue. :simper:

I blame loneliness. About 90% of the gooseberry fool people are talking about on the phone is irrelevant and the call taker is merely placating their need to discuss a million things tangentially at best related to the problem.
