They're called "taps"

He is in Wales. I don’t think they have taps yet. They get cold water from the River Severn and get hot water when they leave it out in the sun for a bit.

See. I know you're lying because "sun" in Wales? Pull the other one.

By sun I meant the thing that slightly glows behind the clouds. To a Welshman like Ad7, seeing that counts as a sunny day.

^This.

But it's got to have a lot of bubbles, too many brands have seriously weak offerings.

My favourite is this...

Bourjomi is also good but tastes pretty salty.

BS vet fees.

Background, have an old dog that coupled with arthritis, is prone to hurting himself when he over exerts himself, making him lame for a few days. When I had his annual vaccination, I mentioned this to the vet and she suggested getting and keeping some pain killers when he is feeling poorly. Earlier this week he had a bit of a limp (pretty much back to OK now) so I went to see the vet on Wednesday (without the dog so no new consultation) and asked if I could buy the painkillers. The receptionist said she will sort it and yesterday I was told I could come and collect the prescription. So on collection, it is £32. When I get home, a quick check online shows that you can buy it for under £6 if you have a prescription but I'm guessing the vet is going to charge a fortune each time I want a prescription.

As a final insult, when you pay at the vets, the credit card machine asks you if you would like to donate 50p to some animal charity. Now I know they are charging 6 times the cost for products they can donate to charity from their own strawberry floating profits.

Yes?

I feel I need to weigh in here and defend the vet trade a tad, no I dont know about your vets etc. but going on the one's my wife has worked at they dont mark up as much as you would think, and for the most part aren't profiting any where near as much as you would think.

Many pretty much just get by, also as an aside, insurance is your friend.

I can order the painkillers on line for under £6 if I have a prescription. There was no consultation to see my dog and I was charged £32 for the same thing. That mark up is not what I think, it is the actual mark up. Had there been a consultation it would have been a bit more understanding, but I think this increase is impossible to justify.

Insurance is no help as you have to pay an excess which is more than £32.

There would be a perscription cost in with the £32, and you can always take the prescription else where, usually for that sort of thing it is cheaper as everything has mark up but not just for the hell of it, it all goes for paying for the staff, equipment etc.

Obviously some vets do take the piss maybe yours is one I don't know, but generally the prices aren't higher so they can take the piss and keep the money for themselves.

So on collection, it is £32. When I get home, a quick check online shows that you can buy it for under £6

I think this particular vet is profiting by around £26.

Minus the cost the prescription as that would be part of that and the vet probably pays more talhan 6 quid for the drugs in the first place as can't buy in massive bulk.

There is some stuff where the wife works that the vets have to pay nearly double what the on line peeps sell for wholesale because they can't buy in as big bulk.

DH - can you get a repeat prescription? We have one for Nala through the summer to keep on top of a pollen allergy that affects her skin.

What I've never done is attempt to get the prescription in printed form to buy the Apoquel elsewhere, but I'd imagine it could be done.

The vet isn't allowed to refuse to give the prescription to use else where, I'm pretty sure they are also meant to tell you that they can. You still have to pay for the prescrption but you can then use that whereever you want.

This is what I'm thinking, but they will probably be little bitches and say "no, we have to have a consultation" (like they didn't this time). Will try though. Just hope they don't try to charge ridiculously more for a repeat prescription.

Maybe they should buy online. Could probably then get a Ferrari rather than having to rough it out with an R8.

What the vet does with their pay is their business, vet pay is pretty standard across the country and they could have other business investments etc. just because the VET is doing well for themselves doesn't the "VETRENARY PRACTICE" is.
I'm not going to discuss this as there isn't any point but it all costs money to have a surgery, staff, stock etc. it costs money, if you dont like it dont have pets, but for the most part they aren't jacking prices for their own gain.
