Well, there's Cammie Dunaway, if you like that sort of thing. And Reggie for Hexx.

Reggie would ruin Hexx :(

If I'm honest, I really want to see new IP over the same old series, time and again.

This year's E3 is pretty much make or break for Nintendo as far as I'm concerned. I don't really know what to expect from them anymore.

Well, that sure fills me with optimism. :|

In all seriousness, this year's E3 will cement once and for all whether Nintendo has lost touch with its loyal hardcore fanbase, or whether it wants to keep us AND the 'expanded audience' sweet.

Only a complete moron would underestimate Nintendo. Contrary to popular belief they dont have their fingers in their ears shouting LALALA whenever someone mentions 'Core' gamers. After last years Nov media expo id expect all guns blazing, on both casual and fanboy fronts.

It is true that people should never underestimate Nintendo, its also true that Nintendo have tapped into a huge market that is not Hardcore Ninty fans. As much as I would love F-Zero, New Zelda, Star Fox etc, I really don't expect Nintendo to be busting the announcements out at E3. I do expect them to keep expanding their market with non-core games and maybe throw a few titbits to Hardcore fans to keep them sane.

Brawl was kept out of the conference two years ago, and Miyamoto said last year that they don't use the main E3 conference to reveal core games anymore, so I'm not expecting anything major from the conference itself. I'll be disappointed if stuff doesn't appear in later conferences/on the floor itself, but they can do whatever they want with the conference itself.

You realise that makes no sense. Right?

The so called lack of 'core' games on Wii is completely ridiculous.

So far we've had proper Zelda, WarioWare, Mario, Super Mario, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Wario Land, Smash Brothers, Excite and Mario Kart as well as spin offs of Paper Mario and Wars and new IP in Disaster.

We know we are also getting new Punch Out, Sin and Punishment and Another Code this year (not to mention Sports Resort). And Nintendo are publishing Fatal Frame IV here.

On top of all that, we have new WiiWare releases and VC stuff.

You'd be mad to think Nintendo have ever given more to 'core' gamers in a generation of a console. But for some reason its accepted wisdom that we've been shafted by them...it just doesn't make any sense at all.

The modern gamer is spoilt, that's the problem. There's a wealth of riches on the 360 in particular which puts Wii in the shade, comparatively speaking. Of course, most people won't play half those games, yet they'll still be pulled out in forum arguments when talking about the Wii's lack of core content. If the Wii was the only home console on the market, no-one would be complaining. But these days, it's all about blasting through a game as quick as you can before moving onto the next one. And it has to be said that the gaming press plays a major part in this, fuelled by the enthusiasm of publishers and PR companies to push their next product before their current one has had any kind of shelf life. This is why Nintendo's long-tail strategy has worked so well. Some people criticise it for marketing its older games, but it's been a masterstroke for keeping Wii and DS in the public eye even without bags of new first-party content to support it.

Sadly the truth is that all the N64 and Cube gamers are sore the 360 has more to offer the dedicated gamer, and so are quick to decry the Wii as a toy because they dont want to be seen as going with the mass market. Its elitest tw*tism of the highest order. If the Wii was 3rd overall theyd be laughing at 360 owners for not trying anything new.

Thankfully Nintendo have made some shrewd business decisions and ignored their rabid fanbase. Id like to see a 30-player online F-zero as much as the next guy, but it wouldnt be a great business investment because it would sell about 10 copies. Instead we have Mario Kart which satisfies both markets. I reckon the DS will be home to any future core franchises now. That said how awesome would an online F-Zero DS be with the 64DD track creator built in? Sod the Wii, give us a portable update.

That is so true HoC. It's a shame. Iam guilty of it and I am sure i have got far less out of the games as a result. I've really tried to slow down this past few months and realy savour the games. I'm also playing more of what i really like rather than just stuff that gets well hyped on forums (i was falling for all that too much). The Wii has been getting a lot of play time again as a result. Another results of what you say is people rarely sticking to online console games for more than a week, making it pointless getting into them.

I think Nintendo will make more of an effort this year due to the backlash from last year, however I do think a large portion of the conference will be aimed at the casual gamer - especially sports games using motion plus.

That said, I imagine Starfox will make a appearance, and possibly Pikmin 3. Obviously Zelda DS will be there also. I predict that they will also have a first party WiiWare announcement such as a new Mario platformer.

I doubt Zelda Wii will be released before 2010 however, hopefully they'll show a trailer though.

Yeah, a lot of that sounds fairly plausible. I'm less sure about Starfox given Dylan Cuthbert's recent comments, though. And I think a Mario platformer would be too big for WiiWare. Nintendo will likely stick to more experimental stuff. A 2D Metroid on WiiWare isn't beyond possibility, but I can't see Mario or Zelda ever having a particularly notable series entry on a download service (at least not 'til the next generation of consoles).

They'd be mad not to be making a 4 Swords game for WiiWare no?

I don't know, what about a 2D Mario platformer for the modern gamer? Like NSMB, but better?

If it was online then it would be fantastic. It's too obvious a thing for Nintendo to do though :x

A new 2D metroid in the style of Super Metroid would be awesome, so obviously Nintendo is never going to do it. :(
