Toast: How Toasted Should It Be?

The world is crumbling, democracy is failing and trouble seems to surround us at all sides - lets ignore those problems for a moment to deal with the real burning issue of out time:

How Toasted Should Toast Be!? :toot:

The inspiration for this was that as I didn't get a chance to have breakfast at home this morning I thought I'd grab a cheeky (oi oi!) bit of toast at work first thing after arriving. I was happily making my toast (one brown slice, one white obviously ;) ) and starting to apply my topping (just butter unfortunately :( ) when Johnny "King Of The Toasters" Nobody butts in:

"Aw that's a shame, you've burnt your toast mate!"

Now my toast was at most a 4 on the above scale, so basically not burnt at all. So I'm thinking "strawberry float off Johnny you moron, leave me to my toast!", but obviously as a well behaved member of society I don't say that and instead treated him to my best Ryan Gosling stare :| and went off with my toast.

Somewhere around 3 and 4.

It has to be a 4 and anything north of 6 will probably give you cancer in the long run.

4 for me, but I'd eat from 1-5.

3 and 4 look good.

If you repeat "strawberry float off Johnny you moron, leave me to my toast!" three times in front of a toaster I heard it will summon his vengeful spirit

Between 3-4 is perfect for me, especially for beans on toast.

Anything above 4, MAYBE 5, is too crunchy for me to enjoy really.

I think this is pretty much my range (although I'd probably send a 1 back for a second go!)

5.

It's meant to be toasted otherwise it's just warmed bread.

4. 5 is actually burnt and 6 onwards you may as well just eat charcoal.

1 is just a slice of bread. Shouldn't even be on there. Needs to be at least 4 and maybe a 5 for boiled eggs so the banana split doesn't fold in on itself as you dip. 3/4 for anything else.

5, 4 is a little underdone for egg dipping and melting butter nicely but it is acceptable. The rest are not toast.

There definitely an element of final application that needs to taken in to consideration. For example 2/3 would be ideal as the starting point for cheese on toast but useless for scrambled egg on toast where you need a 4 or 5 for the structural integrity to be maintained.

3, 4 and 5, though I'd scrape off the charring on 5. It's been a long time since I toasted white bread though, it's usually THE CHAMPION of bread, Allinson's.

If I ever got it to 7 or 8 it'd be in the recycling bin.

Would eat 5, but my preference would be 4 or below. I'll normally have a couple of slices, one hot and one cold.
