All I remember is ONM heavily recommending this game when it came out on Wii virtual console

So I'm sort of interested, but still don't really know what this is

If it's anything like the first game then it's an isometric roguelike with co-op. In the first game the storyline was you crashed your ship on Earth which blew the planet apart and every level took place on chunks of land with an elevator somewhere that took you to the next level. If you fell off the side of a level you landed on the previous level and had to go back to the elevator again. The enemies are a weird mix between monster things and stereotypes of humans. You get abilities from collecting presents dropped by Santa with stuff like slingshots that fire tomatos, hi-tops that make you run faster, icarus wings that let you fly and these all last a limited amount of time.

Played the original on the Sega Mega Drive Classic collection on PS4 and a pretty fun time with it.

For those wondering about the gameplay, it's like the first game (think of it as an update a la Binding of Isaac: Rebirth vs. the original flash game, or Spelunky 2012 vs. Spelunky 2007). It's an isometric exploration game with roguelike elements. Your overall aim is to find all the pieces of a spaceship throughout various levels. Along the way is a ton of other stuff including presents which can aid (or harm!) you, earthlings and other enemies to deal with, minigames galore...

Managed to squeeze an hour or so in. Only the tutorial level but it's strawberry floating ace and obviously better than the beta version. Everything is so f u n k y and shiny and beautiful, there's some really cool homages to the earlier games but it doesn't lean on them too much. Also my name in the credits with fireworks and an extra special thank you :datass:

Tremendous work on the thread and continued hype Dangerblade

Got super fond memories of playing the original over a friend's house, still enjoy it now especially as a co-op experience. So glad reception for this generally seems to be positive, hoping to pick it up on PC sometime and likely stream it with Pedz

Feel free to enter the giveaway if you haven't already!

Gonna try to finish the fixed world tonight, then onto the main game. They've had good sales in the first 24 hours which bodes well for supporting the game post-launch.

You've educated me on this as it had totally passed me by. I've never played the original, but I can sing the main music thanks to watching some gameplay over and over again on a mean machines Sega vhs way back in the day.

Might look out for it on switch for local coop.

Do it. Whether you have memories of the first game or not it's worth funking up.

Finished the fixed world, now onto the main, random game. Already found Level 0, nostalgia overload

So if all goes as planned, Pedz and I should be streaming this in co-op around 9pm :toot:

Should hopefully be via http://multitwitch.tv/jazzem/p3dz to combine our streams. Will post again in thread when live!

I shall try to tune in but my internet has been at about 1.5 mbps for the past week or so, so I don't know for sure (it literally took me about 10 hours to download the game to my PS4)

I managed to catch a couple of minutes before my stream crapped out, but the couple of minutes involved you getting stuck in an elevator, opening the burning up present, running into a ship piece and dying

So this has gotten pretty decent reviews eh? Gameinformer 8 and everything.

Nope, it's gooseberry fool says RPSs John Walker:

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/0 ... ve-review/

Honestly, the sooner he strawberry floats off the better.

EDIT: Aaaaand he's continuing his trend of entering the comments and arguing with people who disagree with his review, including one of the devs this time round.

What an arse.

Thanks for posting that, added to the OP in the interests of balance

EDIT: The more I read it the more annoyed I get. Like I get disliking certain mechanics about it but some of the stuff he rips on is WTF? Like the strawberry floating MUSIC??? dumbass
