I know both sports have their fans and I’m sure are technical as hell, but to the untrained eye, they don’t look anything other than some random kicks or grappling. At least I can appreciate the skateboarding skills, although I was surprised just how many fell off considering they’re the best in the world
When you have two evenly matched Judoka they sorry of nullify each other and you end up with a very cagey match. There are also a lot of rules about attacking intent etc which I'm not fully up on as I do Ju-Jitsu and not Judo. A lot of the techniques are hip based throws which involve the fighter turning their back as they throw. If this gets defended you find yourself with your back to your opponent and open to a rear choke which would end the fight instantly, which is why you often find the attacking fighter turtling on the floor if the throw is unsuccessful. Counters can't also be quite confusing. I love watching it though!
Taekwondo is a bit odd with how they go for quite tickly head kicks and I find it quite hard to watch sometimes, but Sinden's final was great drama. I'm more excited than I thought I would be for the Karate kumite (sparring) and kata (forms).
Well done Pidcock! And come on Williams!
