What exactly is the point of banning Russia from competing at the Olympics for doping if the athletes can just compete together under a neutral association?

EDIT - Oh the CAS had reduced down to this punishment. That's a bit ridiculous.

BBC coverage is awful. They only seem to have one stream and no red button. Even on iPlayer there isn't much and lots of sports missing.

I remember that story about coverage being bought by Discovery. It strawberry floating sucks, just taking free entertainment to people for the sake of greed. Far fewer people are going to be watching interesting stuff because of a bunch of wankers.

I guess because not every Russian athlete was cheating, but Russia itself was.

It'd be unfair to ban somebody from the competition just because their state are cheating bastards.

Thanks, hadn't realised there were more beyond 1, 2, and 4K.

Watching in 4K is nice for the detail, but it appears to be HDR as well, and I can't for the life of me work out how to get a decent looking HDR image on my telly. Everything either looks really dark and washed out, or over saturated and sharpened.

Probably try to find a good setup guide for your TV YouTube is a good place to help you through.
What TV have you got?

Some budget Hisense number, its probably just gooseberry fool HDR implementation tbf.

I'm was surprised to discover the Olympics isn't listed as category A sports, meaning it needs to be on free to air TV, but having seen how that list has been culled over the years, and the fact that DCMS doesn't seem to care for sports that aren't either hosted here or universally popular, it's sadly inevitable.

Cracking game of Volleyball just now between Iran and Poland.

I don't understand why there's zero fans in the stadiums. Even 10% capacity would be something.

Hasn't Japan declared a state of emergency over their current covid rate? No spectators is probably the only way they can justify not postponing the games again.

Eurosports gymnastics coverage has gone from just having no commentary, to now being a totally silent feed. :fp:

Not allowing spectators in to Olympic events is just for show. To make it look like Japan is doing everything it can to make a "safe" Games.

At the same time, if you live here you can go see professional Baseball, football etc, and have been able to do so probably for about 10-12 months now. They didn't have much of a postponement bar March-June last year.

And let's not forget that there were plenty of corporate spectators in the stadium last night. Foreigners aren't allowed into the country normally at the moment, yet they can enter the stadium if they have the connections. Residents here and Japanese people can watch any other sport in the stadium, but aren't allowed to enter the stadium.

It's hypocritical and purely there to make it look like Japan is doing *something*.

As is the State of Emergency. It largely amounts to restaurants shutting at 8 or 9pm and no alcohol being on sale. Yet the convenience stores all sell booze for about a quid, so last time I was in Shibuya earlier this year, despite the State of Emergency loads of young people were just drinking in the street.

It's also not nationwide too, so where I live I can go to a bar and drink as normal. And then go get on a train to Tokyo tomorrow.

It's not been a very logical pandemic here.

This is before you get in to the horrifically low levels of testing, which make the low number of cases look okay, but is actually quite a high percentage of tears conducted. It's always been either quite hard or quite expensive to get tested.

And here I'm going by what was on Reddit admittedly, but apparently on July 22nd, we had 1300 cases here. But only 2400 tests were carried out. Test numbers drop drastically on public holidays (which Thursday and Friday were) and weekends. So numbers drop. As soon as numbers start dropping people massively take their foot off the gas. I think we are on Wave 5 or 6 here now?

The Government has either been unwilling or, due to constitutional restrictions, unable to enact anything remotely tough.

For FFS. Up at 7am and still missed the skateboarding. Just checked the schedule and got basically no chance of watching what little of it is left.

Why isn't there an international law that all events must be held at times convenient for people in Great Britain; Rule Brittania, Brittania Rules The Waves? My mum didn't fight two World Wars for this disrespect.

The sun never sets on the British Empire and so events can be on at any time and still be perfect timing for the glory of Queen Victoria.

Bloody good point, old boy, can't believe I didn't think of that.

Kickboxing is one of those events that sounds like the coolest thing in the world but is actually pretty lame (unless you really know what's going on, in which case I'm sure it's great).

Did laugh just now as I'm sure the British coach was talking to the ref in perfect, BBC newsreader English, then you could hear him jabbering away in Scouse in between the rounds .

Agreed. I just make sure I don't go on my phone so I don't accidentally ruin any results.

Sounds like a nightmare, and potentially even more of a farce than the UK.

Does make the lack of spectators seem utterly ridiculous is other events are open.
