Quickie question guys. Is this game worth getting and what is the difficulty like? Why I'm asking is I don't mind playing RTS games at first, but when they start to escalate, I 'tend to get a little overwhelmed and never finish a game because I get frustrated that my tactics are wrong.

I've also heard it's voice activated, does this help out making the controls less complicated?

It's £18 on play, so I was toying with the idea of playing something different other than FPS.

Cheers lads! :P

The Difficulty is actually on a good curve and the voice comms does help with controlling and keeping an eye on your units. There is not as much micro management as other PC based RTS games, so you tend to focus more on smaller groups of units and arranging them around the battlefield. You don't have to babysit units like you do in some RTS games and yelling at your units to retreat will give you some odd looks. :shifty:

Against the A.I, you won't have problems unless you start to kick the difficulty up. Also remember that the game is built around the Theater of War mode (Persistent online mode) and this is where it can be a bit brutal, since you bump into heavily geared up armies on the prowl.

Ah right, cheers Raide. It doesn't sound too bad. I did have Battle for Middle Earth, which I thought was great at first, then as I was getting near the end of the good campaign, I found I was being over run by Mordor's forces  Woeful tactician!

There's a downloadable demo on LIVE isn't there?

*Connects to LIVE*

Thanks again Raide. Anymore thoughts from the rest of you?!

A few tips for the demo. For the Voice Commands, make sure you set the options to Full. That way you will get access to all of the useful commands.

There is a little demo at the start to practice the commands, but it does take a few games to grasp it. Don't worry, since you can use the pad at the same time. You do have to speak fairly clearly but it will pick things up 99% of the time. You might find one or two commands might not come out as you expected.

When you hold the Right Trigger to give commands, you start with...

*The Unit*
*What you want them to do*
*Target*

So
"Unit 1, Move To, Bravo"
"Unit 3, Attack, Hostile 4"
"Unit 2 and Unit 4, Secure, Alpha"

If you cannot remember a command just press the button and Say "Unit..." and then wait. The list will appear and you can browse what you want. The system understands "ermmms" and "ummms"

Some useful commands

"Retreat"
"Calling all Units"
"Calling all Tanks/Helicopters"
"WMD"

Cheers Raide!

I've ordered the main game it seems. I didn't realise I did until I saw the confirmation mail from play.com in my inbox. Damn for getting pissed last night and not remembering I ordered it! :fp:

I've had this for ages and not bothered playing it as I got frustrated with the voice controls. Can the game be played without them as I always end up having to issue the same order 5 times before it decides to do anything.

It can. That's how I play. It's not a great game, imo - it looks quite nice in action but it very quickly all gets a bit 'meh'.

See? I haven't had a single problem with the voice commands. It must like my farmer twang'd accent!
