Started playing Tomb Raider Legend on the 360 yesterday. Hard to believe how far games have come on the same machine. The poor framerate hits you like a lead balloon, as does the somewhat clunky controls. The acrobatics Lara can pull off on the B button is about the only thing that can be called even remotely decent about the shooting, which I thought felt the most antiquated. The story, ropey FMV cut-scenes & hammy acting just reek of retro-90s videogames.

I'm not saying it's a bad game or anything because it isn't at all, it just takes quite a bit of readjusting - I guess because I wasn't expecting it to have aged quite as much. It was different in my head.

The wife never saw Legend or Underworld so we were probably going to revisit them in the next few weeks. In my head Legend have aged terribly but I know exactly what you mean. The gulf between 2005's 360 games and 2013's is just incredible.

Even the opening video montage has editing that looks old fashioned. Really silly things like the basic menu screen, which also doesn't look quite right either (I think they may have stretched a 4:3 image to 16:9). Funny how you don't really notice these things gradually over time, and it's only when you go back and realise 'Holy gooseberry fool, even the menu screens have high production values now'.

Has put into perspective however about any upcoming Xbox 3 and PS4 games at launch not looking massively different to what we have now, and not to make too much of a big deal out of it.

Pfft. Legend. I started the original yesterday. :shifty:

Only one level down so far but I'm enjoying it! I think I only played the Saturn version at the time, and that was after playing at least Tomb Raider 2 on my PS1. The combat's still rubbish, but then it always was.

I'm going to wait for Tomb Raider II: Anniversary that's definitely coming out in 2017.

Until then I'm going to Leave the Memories Alone.

I'm looking forward to seeing where they go from here, i would like to see them take Lara on a globe spanning adventure, exploring tombs and the like

Guess we'll see the sequel a year or 2 into the lives of the X720 and PS4

I don't know. By setting the reboot on a single island they were able to give it an amazing sense of place. It never stopped wowing me with its environments either. If they do go for multiple locations next time they'd do well to limit it to two or three rather than going too crazy.

In fairness Legend was previous generation, as was Anniversary.

The only true Tomb Raider this generation (other than this latest release) is Underworld, which is one of the best Tomb Raiders to ever be released.

Done that multiplayer, playa.

That has to be one of the worst, poorest, badly designed, badly constructed, badly thought out, tacked on multiplayer ( But iT's gOt TO have Tegh mUlTiPlAyEr!1!!1!!! ) I've played in a while.

strawberry float that. I'll never ever EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR play it again.

Going to start the real game in a few hours, I'm itching to play it.

Finished it tonight, with 81% completion. The ending section was really good. The combat as a whole isn't as good as Uncharted, but environment traversal is better, less linear.
Ended up thoroughly enjoying it bar a couple of small niggles.

Opinions, eh?

Oh, I did like the dodge/counter mechanic though. Made sense, wiry lass like that scampering about.

Well done!

I agreed it was very annoying to reach Level 60 and it was boring.

Finished the game, 100% on first run through hardest setting. Silly me, thought I got all the achievements, I have to do the multiplayer which I only just discovered it had and it's bad, really bad.

Should I just trade it in? I'm done with the game and it was amazing, I don't want to soil my experience with more of the multiplayer, especially as I'm only grinding for cheevos.

I traded my copy in once I completed the single player. Multiplayer is wank.
