I just like to explore and learn the controls. It just seems like the subtitles are glitch in the tutorial section, but the game does have it.

I will play it more later on.

Bought. Bargain at that price even if it goes much lower later on.

Don't know when I'll actually get around to playing them though.

That is shitty. But I'm fairly sure the audio cues are just the same as the original game, so if you could follow a YouTube video of the Mansion with subtitles, you wouldn't miss out. It's pretty short in TR1.

EDIT: Obviously you shouldn't have to do that, but it's probably preferable to waiting for them to fix it.

There's a video here where the subtitles were working. The relevant subs start at 10:30. Up to then, it's just the streamer guy commenting on things that have changed in the remaster.

Tomb Raider 3 is testing my patience now. Started London tonight and I'm considering dropping it. I'm sure I'll persevere but the level design in this one just feels a bit cruel and badly sign posted. Just felt relief after completing the South Pacific and it didn't feel great.

I started this a few days ago. Old game quirks aside, the first game holds up so well. Dripping in atmosphere. Just got to the cistern which is a GOAT level, really compact and memorable.

I was saying to my wife how groundbreaking it was at the time. Up until then I had a megadrive/cd/32x, and virtua racing aside my gaming was still in the sonic the hedgehog realm, so going from that to the first tomb raider game was mind blowing.

When the theme music randomly kicks in

I finished Cistern last night, it's my least fav level now :slol: I was trying to kill every enemy and it took multiple playthroughs because there's a Croc that seemingly only spawns if you do things in a certain order. I must have spent about 2-3 hours on that level the past week  I guess it's that way in the original game, it's not something I've tried to do before playing this game.

Do you know what, I retract my cistern love. I finished it this morning and the last section where you have to drop the water again and find a way back to the last silver key really pissed me off. Lots of animals just appearing on random ledges, and to top it off that guy just appearing in the key room and killing me off. I keep going to pause it to heal and pressing the graphics toggle instead, so I keep just seeing old lara getting shot. I also kept falling to my death. The main room is iconic, I'll give it that. Very strange ending space too.

Up to Antarctica on Tomb Raider 3 now. London was horrific. The level design is pretty bad in this one. Everything is just incoherent mazes with no real logical sign posting. It's infuriating.

The first level of London was so weird. I don't even know if I completed it correctly or if I managed to get somewhere I wasn't supposed to. It was horrible.

I can definitely relate to this, I was a Saturn gamer in the mid ‘90s and Tomb Raider represented a huge step forward from the late gen SNES stuff I was enjoying at the time like Killer Instinct and Yoshi’s Island. I remember playing through the game together with my brother but we got stuck at the Cistern level. We even traded in actual games at Electronics Boutique to get hold of the strategy guide for Tomb Raider. I have no memories of the last few levels (except that Ms Natla was a gooseberry fool boss) of that game as we kept referring to the guide which I regret.

I remember having a sleepover at a friend’s house at the time and he had the same game on his PlayStation. I remember telling him how much better it looked and ran on his console and how proud he was , smiling and nodding such was the console wars of the time.

I was very sad to find out that he was murdered during covid, brutally stabbed to death. This has nothing to do with Tomb Raider but it did make me sad and I remember that time fondly, like my own personal Stand By Me conclusion.

It may do, Fisher, although this is quite a new game. Might have to wait a little while longer until you can go raiding.

Just got to Cistern, was never a fan and I'm stumped already but only spent 10mins poking about.

Did you play the original versions of Tomb Raider on an older console, Fisher?

Same here, Fisher! I liked the atmosphere of that first title; it felt mysterious. I dabbled a little with Tomb Raider Legend but not much. I'm thinking that the re-boot Tomb Raider may be a god place to jump in - that newer trilogy seemed to be pretty well-regarded.
