You know what the original Tomb Raider’s knew the art of? Silence.

Yup, silence is creepy. I remember in TR2's sunken ship, the minimal sound design felt really suffocating. Even just the monotonous whirr of machinery on the oil rig was so atmospheric.

I'm so, so excited for Wednesday.

God damn the opening to the first game is so nostalgic.

I never played these games. Well, about an hour of TR1, but that was it until Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

It's so good. I'd forgotten just how much I used to LOVE the tomb raider games, until after 3 and then for some reason I just never bothered with them.

4 still had some of the magic, a couple of great locations in that, but the formula was getting worn thin after so many iterations in such a short time. When you combine that with times moving on and other devs pushing what could be done, both on that PS1 hardware and the next generation that was now coming out, it was easy to see why the series faltered

I played OG TR and Anniversary is one of my favourite games so this is tempting me.

Also very Yes to the power and mood of silence (and the main theme is still a video game all-timer!)

I can't help but be disappointed that Revelations hasn't been included in this :( Would've been a nice one to round off the collection, especially with that ending.

5.77GB on Xbox btw.

Description says it's 4K 60 on Series X (probably 1440p on Series S).

It's wild these games were turned out with only a handful of people back then. I wouldn't be surprised if the remaster has at least twice as many people working on it than the original games had back then while churning out yearly games

Even more impressive is the amount of them that came out in such a short amount of time. Felt like a game a year. You just wouldn't get that now with game budgets being the way they are. 1 game per generation and then endless remakes and remasters for all time.

Yep the trilogy released in 3 years.

I remember 3 seemed to be a graphical step up from the first 2. Never finished it either, I’d moved on to Ocarina of Time.

Not only did they churn out a game each year, they somehow managed to do a GOTY expansion for each game on PC between major releases (the first 3 Tomb Raider expansions are coming with this release). Those poor strawberry floats must have been so burnt out :dread:

I think they were able to use more triangular polygons or something because they dropped the Saturn which held the first 2 games back, which allowed for more interesting environments.

I remember 3 having lots of dynamic coloured lighting too.

I just watched the gameplay video and even with the original textures it looks so good and clean at 1080p

It makes me wish some kind of effort was put in to the Metal Gear Solid release last year  and it was over twice the price of this :fp:

I had no idea the original releases had expansion packs

Only one more sleep :msgreen: It looks so, so good.

I think the only one to include an extra 'expansion' level on PlayStation was Tomb Raider The Last Revelation, which from memory only featured on OPM: The Best Games Ever Special Edition.

I vaguely remember some interactive software guide being made available for the original on PC. You had this presenter and she was dressed up as Lara Croft. VINTAGE wackiness.
