For anyone looking for something to do in Tokyo, I'd highly recommend Team Lab Planets. It's like an art sensory thing with water. I went last year and it was amazing.

That looks very cool. I see there's another one called Teamlab Borderless. Not sure which to go for. Anyone been to both?

If you want to go Borderlwss buy your tickets ASAP. They go quickly, I tried to get them two months before we left and nothing for the whole two weeks we were in Tokyo.

As for Seoul, it’s a wonderful place. Shopping is vast but the staff are trained to follow you around the shop with disregard for western ideas of personal space, that can be a bit off putting. We were taken to a lovely tea house called Moon bird thinks only of the Moon and it’s as quaint as it sounds. Unfortunately sits right next to a poo themed restaurant which serves food in tiny toilet bowls. Avoid.

Our trip to Korea/Japan hasn't got off to the best start.

The Edinburgh to Amsterdam flight was delayed and we missed our connection to Seoul.

We thought for a while we'd make the transfer, then our plane got put in a holding pattern for 20 mins. Abbie and I ran through the huge Amsterdam airport, only to find the platform retracting from our plane. Gutting. They've put us up in a hotel for the night and have booked us on a flight to Hong Kong tomorrow evening, with a transfer to Seoul from there. Over 5 hours extra on a plane than originally planned, and arriving over 26 hrs later than we should have.

Does anyone have any experience in claiming compensation? Do you think I'm entitled to any? The round trip was booked through KLM.

Flying out of the EU I'd say it's very likely you're entitled to some. Beyond that I would just google it sorry, I had a site for it but I can't remember the url just now.

You're definitely entitled to compensation - any delay of over three hours should entitle you to that as far as I know.

Second youngest daughter moves to Japan tomorrow. She's living in the south east. Got a 1 year contract to teach English. She's very excited. I'll miss her but its an amazing opportunity.

Yes you can claim.

Keep all of your receipts. Hotel, food and so on.

My flight with BA got cancelled earlier this year and had to stay in hotel.

BA paid only £100 for the hotel, but the EU compensation paid out 250euros.

It took a couple of months to get the compensation through BA as they're pretty busy.

You can use a compensation claimer company or go direct with KLM;
https://www.klm.com/travel/gb_en/custom ... lation.htm

If you go direct with KLM, you should get all the money, but just more admin to do.

Technically it's my youngest step daughter. She's 29. My youngest (the one you're thinking of) is 20.

Cracking news! Whereabouts? Do you know which company she’s working for?

What part of Tokyo would people recommend staying in for a 6 or so day visit around March?
Some things in particular I'm looking at doing are,
1 or 2 days in Disneyland Tokyo
Shopping trip to Akihabara
Possible day trip to Mt Fuji
Possible day trip on the Bullet train
General looking around/touristy things

So far the only quotes I've had were for hotels around the Shinjuku area.

Shinjuku's probably a good bet for those activities. The trains towards Fuji leave from Shinjuku I believe. Look for anywhere close to a stop on the Yamanote line, all the big touristy spots will then be a short trip away.

Bear in mind that Disneyland is a bit of a trek out of the city, so be prepared to get up early to make the most of it.

Yeah I think Disney is in Chiba isn't it?
What's the best way to get there? Train I'm guessing?

It's not as far out as Chiba, but it is kind of on an island between Tokyo and Chiba. Train is the best way afaik, but there will be a change over or 2 depending where you start. I can recommend Disney Sea btw!

Would you say one day at Disney Sea and one day at Disneyland is about enough time for an off peak time of year like March?
