Watched the first episode, fantastically made and shot, but it is depressing to the point of not being realistic. I understand that its serious subject matter but there was nothing even slightly lighter about it at all. Just pure misery

It does lighten up a little, I'd say the first episode is the darkest.

I agree and you also find out why Rust is how he is which goes a long way to explaining his outlook on the world.

Any body else finding the dialogue between two leads to be incredibly funny? I think it's absolutely brilliant.

That was a nice set up for the remaining episodes.

I enjoyed the bit in the prison where Harrelson says it's hard living with someone who talks nonsense while looking at Maconaughey

Does anyone else think McConaughey looks a bit like Steve Coogan here?

This show is so strawberry floating good, honestly I love it. This weeks was so bleak and unsettling in parts, but the set up is getting so interesting now. I was fixed the whole way through. I honestly can't praise this enough. I know it has only been 5 episodes so it hasn't had the longevity of proven quality other acclaimed shows have. So it would be a big stretch to say it compares to those shows so early, but for me it's some of the best television I think I've ever watched. I think I actually like the character of Rust" Cohle more than even Walter White.

Man, I loved that twist. Boom, we're now looking at a new kind of evil. I knew it wasn't going to take place when they started describing this big action scene  I can't see Cohle being 'The Yellow King' but I can see him doing some strawberry floated up gooseberry fool to lure 'the king' out like taking Hart's daughter. Maybe putting here in a controlled situation. They did mention an altercation. There was a councillor in one of the episodes and they talk about a higher up being involved so my money is on him so far.

You can get the music used in each episode if you go to HBO's True Detective website section 8-)

Me either it's been one of the best series I've ever watched.

1. Game of Thrones
2.The Wire
3.The Walking Dead
4.True Detective
5.Breaking Bad

I'm already debating the order of that list.

Walking Dead above True Detective and Breaking Bad? Walking Dead wouldn't even make top 20 at this point

As much as season four has been disappointing so far I still really like the series it isn't critically as good as True Detective and Breaking Bad but I have really enjoyed watching it so far. True Detective will probably end up above The Walking Dead but so far I've only seen six episodes I need to see the rest of the season and a strong second season before I can justify putting it higher. Breaking Bad I have to admit I didn't finish season five (I will soon) I just thought it was very slow to get going.
