Mahershala Ali may have found his next act.
The Moonlight Oscar winner is in early discussions for a starring role in a potential third season of HBO anthology True Detective. A deal is far from done — and it remains unclear if there will actually be a third cycle of the franchise. HBO declined comment.
I haven't actually seen him anything yet (still need to watch Moonlight) but seems a great choice.

I've only seen him in Luke Cage and he was strawberry floating brilliant in that.

A wild Stephen Dorff appears
In a most unexpected turn of events, it's been revealed that Stephen Dorff (the guy you always think was in The Boondock Saints but, no, that was Sean Patrick Flannery [Powder]) has joined the third season of HBO's True Detective.
The Playlist has further details:
"Dorff will be playing Mahershala Ali’s partner Roland West, with the story taking audiences to the Ozarks for another decades spanning tale, centering around a 'macabre crime… and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.'”
As you already know, the third season of True Detective is slated to be directed by both series creator Nic Pizzolatto and Green Room's Jeremy Saulnier, with Mahershala Ali and Carmen Ejogo also starring. The plot description above is all we know about this season's storyline, but sounds right in line with the series' gritty subject matter (and, perhaps more importantly, sounds like precisely the sort of material Saulnier will knock out of the park).

I remember watching this scene in S1 and I was truly hooked. I really hope S3 is a return to form. Doubt it will ever top S1 though.

I really liked S1 but couldn't get past the second or third episode of S2, hopefully S3 will be a return to form.
I just wish HBO shows weren't so damned difficult to 'acquire' on the high seas.

First episode was fantastic. Slow burn but in the best possible way. Pizzaman might be back
