Vince Vaughan played Norman Bates in the Psycho remake, didn't he?

I can't take him seriously. Vince strawberry floating Vaughan?

But then nobody did when Matthew C was in the first season though. Same as Woody Harrelson.

Wait and see, I reckon.

Are you kidding? :| Or was the last time you read McConaughey's name when he was in Sahara? The McConaissance was in full swing for over two years before True Detective aired.

Confident Vaughn will prove a lot of people wrong. In fact I'm surprised (but also not surprised) that so many people are so quick to judge. He wouldn't have been cast if he was gooseberry fool and he wouldn't have gone for the part without realising what people would think and wanting to prove them wrong. At the very least that should be appreciated.

Where is all this Woody Harrison can't act nonsense coming from? Go watch Natural Born Killers & Rampart.

Because he is a terrible actor that has been going through the motions for years. People are right to be wary of someone of his calibre. I think he probably will pull it off but he knows he has to bring it after the last series.

I'm just excited. Will be fascinating to see if it can live up to the quality of the first series. Farrell and Vaughn will know that if it doesn't, their reputations will take a major knocking, so it's a bold move on their part and they must be confident they can pull it off.

There's also the matter of the female lead who has yet to be announced.

Rachel McAdams Offered True Detective Role

According to Variety, McAdams, who has been rumoured for a role almost as long as Farrell, Vaughn and the still-unconfirmed-but-likely-close Taylor Kitsch, has been offered the third lead in the show, but HBO has yet to make an official announcement. That should be coming shortly assuming the deal is made.

Personally I think that's a good selection.

3rd actor confirms casting -

Taylor Kitsch is pretty confident he’s in True Detective season 2, though HBO still won’t confirm his deal is done.

The Lone Survivor actor told AdWeek that he “can’t f–king wait to hit camera” on the acclaimed crime drama, which is supposed to start shooting next month.

“I’m really excited,” said Kitsch, who last worked on HBO’s The Normal Heart. “I’ve just been prepping … it was tough to sit a year out, keeping a finger crossed that I was going to get True … it was just showing a lot of patience on my end and turning a lot of stuff down because I wanted to be a part of it … So I’m excited. I loved that first season of it so much. It’s just unlike anything I’ve seen in, you know, I don’t know when. And it was so grounded. It could really happen. This is very similar, and I love that. It makes it more relatable. It makes these guys more real.”

I don't know who he is either, but it's not an issue as I'd prefer they pick roles by talent rather than going for big names.

Anyone unfamiliar with Taylor Kitsch should check out Lone Survivor, he's brilliant in it.

HBO confirms cast -

Nic Pizzolatto's drama series 'True Detective' is set to begin production of its second season this fall in California. The eight-episode season will focus on three police officers and a career criminal who navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. The cast includes Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly.

Season 2 will star Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him." Vince Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner." Kelly Reilly will play Frank's wife, Jordan, "a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions."

Rachel McAdams will be Ani Bezzerides, "a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves." Taylor Kitsch's character will be Paul Woodrugh, "a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened."
The first two episodes will be directed by Justin Lin.

Justin Lin...is this good or terrible news or neither? To me, it sounds awful, but I haven't seen Fast Five.

Surprisingly enough the guy who directed Fast Five directing True Detective doesn't mean True Detective will suddenly become like Fast & Furious!

But if Michael Bay was confirmed you just know we'd get an explosion or eight and Megan Fox sticking her bum out.

As long as the script is there, they can get Uwe Boll in to direct for all I care.
