I wonder if they'll go to the effort to update it with the Sega CD translation?.

Someone on ResetEra made a post about attempting to use the assets from the Mega CD version,

games like snatcher and policenauts use a modular platform independent kernel to achieve their ports, essentially a super basic virtual machine. This virtual machine handles the text parsing systems of the games. US Sega CD snatcher handles english text through an additional, sega CD specific module that is not part of the original kernel, written in 68000 assembly. The PC Engine doesn't run this type of code, the module is incompatible with other ports of the game. It's not as easy as just sticking the text from the Sega CD version into the PC Engine version, it'd require significant reengineering.

Basically, it's not at all quick or easy to RIP the English assets from the Mega CD translation. They'd have to implement a translation port from scratch.

So they're just lazily putting out a game that will be impenetrable to the vast majority of the western audience :fp:

I've played through the Sega CD version and didn't think it was all that anyway.

Konami gotta Konami I guess.

Pre-orders go live on Amazon on Monday 15th July, but for Prime members only.

Non-Prime will have to wait longer.

Nowhere else will (officially) be stocking it as Konami are only supplying units to Amazon.

That lineup between the two regions is so swell!

Some duffers in there (especially the US TG-16 lineup) but still great stuff overall. It is at least neat that Snatcher's getting a rerelease at all finally, though err yeah not particularly helpful to us in the west :p

It's a shame there's not an easy avenue for Mega CD games to be sold digitally for that reason

17 year old me was absolutely mad on getting a PC Engine and now old man me has the chance for about £70-£80. And yet I still hover over the metaphorical buy button as I know I'll probably never play it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the first hacks on this be Mega CD emulation just for Snatcher.

It's worth pointing out that one of the Japanese games included, Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire, regularly sells on eBay for anywhere between £1,000-£1,500
The game also needed the Arcard Card add-on which regularly sells for about £50-£150.

Also, the UK listing states,

Preloaded with 40 games! 20 PC Engine games (Japanese versions) + 20 TurboGrafx-16 games (English versions). Some titles are included in both the Japanese and English lineups. Some English games are localizations of Japanese titles.

That seems to be fewer games than the US and Japanese versions.

The US list posted earlier had 22 US games and 26 Japanese games.

The fantastic pinballer Devil Crush is not one of the games included; genuinely disappointed as it's the key title I was looking out for. I love the design of the machine but I'm gonna pass on this.

It's odd as I'd thought I'd be on-board with all of these retro consoles. But NES, SNES, PlayStation, Capcom and PC Engine have all appeared and I've not gone for any of them. I'm even wavering about the upcoming Mega Drive... it looks neat but I kinda think I'd prefer to put the money towards an Analogue SG and play my original MD carts.

I'm still up for diving in with THEC64 (full-size C64 replica) in December, though :-) .

I heard the story about Amazon instantly (or, within five days) charging for pre-orders but is it actually happening? It does deter me from pre-ordering... which is probably a good thing  .

Some guys at work have continued pre-ordering games at Amazon and say they're not being charged until dispatch.

I haven't been charged for Pokémon Sword and Sheikd and I pre-ordered that when the limited edition first went up.
