Guildford was over 50% Tory but Anne Milton has now become an independent and it is a remain area, so there is a small chance of an upset.

The other two Surrey seats they've gone for are currently held by Dominic Raab and Jeremy Hunt, but again both are remain areas and I can see a lot of moderate Tories switching to Lib Dem.

Wasn't Guildford held by the Lib Dems until Clegg. I think LD probably have a chance there.

EDIT: They last had it in 2001 and it's been heavily Tory for the entire 20/21st century.

In some ways it would be good for this election to in part be about combating racism and inherent bigotry within society, just not in the "no, you're more racist" way it would actually happen.

It would be so inspiring if we had an election where the main topic of discussions was which of the main parties was the most racist. :fp:

I'm not intimately familiar with the majority of the seats mentioned above but the ones I do know about (Cheltenham and Cardiff Central) this will have very little impact. Cardiff Central is a strong Labour seat so this is irrelevant and Cheltenham, whilst certainly there is a battle here between LD and Tories the Greens dropping out of the race will barely make a dent in the gap between them. Getting Labour on board would have stood a good chance of tipping that seat in favour of the Lib Dems though.

Labour were invited to join but refused.

I haven't seen a source for this, I thought Swinson ruled it out?

A Conservative claimed on Tuesday that there are actually more food banks in Germany than in the UK, but that appears to be an exaggeration - it's either roughly the same, or in real terms Germany has less because their population is bigger:

BBC News Reality Check wrote:As Labour launched its election campaign on Tuesday, party leader Jeremy Corbyn pledged to end food-bank use within five years.

Speaking on the BBC's Politics Live programme afterwards, Paul Scully, Conservative Party deputy chairman and candidate for Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park, said: "There's more in Germany than there are in the UK."

Is this true?

Claim: There are more food banks in Germany than there are in the UK.

Verdict: We have not been able to find any evidence to support this claim. According to available statistics, Germany has about 2,000 food distribution centres - the same as the UK.

There's more elsewhere so therefore having greater than zero in this country is all fine and dandy.

I haven't seen a source for this, I though Swinson ruled it out?

It was a response given by someone from Plaid Cymru when Andrew Neil asked her about it earlier today.

It's also mentioned in the LD email announcement.

Could be filthy lies, I suppose. I'm not sure if anyone from Labour has commented.

Not that I've seen. Although I have serious reservations about Swinson, I would vote for the LDs in my area if it meant the Tories losing a seat.

Then we're on the same side.

I think it’s pretty irresponsible of sky news to be advertising this as the ‘Brexit election’. A general election should never be about one issue.
